Freshman Year
I smiled and waved goodbye at my mother as I headed my way to Jodie's house since her house wasn't that faraway. Just four blocks. She was one of the people who I befriended this year along with Ruby and Seth. Sometimes I even wonder what a guy like Seth would be doing hanging around girls like us. Not that we were gossipers or girls with fake boobs, but I just get curious what he finds in us. Also, we can't get plastic surgery because we're only 14 years old!
I'm lucky though 'cause girls rarely have guys for best friends because they're jerkoffs and want to get in our panties these days.
Men these days, I thought, as I moved a strand of my red hair away from my hair. Can't live with them, but can't live without them. It will be good to show them that we don't need them to cling to because we girls can protect ourselves too.
A ray of sunlight hit the side of my face and I immedately placed my hand over my face. As I padded along my block to Jodie's house I looked up at the clear, baby blue sky and couldn't help how fresh and independent I suddenly felt. It was just how the breeze suddenly circled me, the birds singing above me in the treetops, the sun winking at us over the horizon, and how calm the atmosphere was. Perfect time to be all giddy and turning the hose on your friends. Their clothes start getting soaked and you laughed along with them at the messy situation. It wasn't summer, but winter had passed so technically we could probably still do that.
As I swayed along the gentle breeze and started humming to myself a song came to my mind. A song perfect for my peaceful, fun moment.
How did it go...?
Something like...
It just takes some time, little girl you're in the middle of the ride.
Everything will be just fine, everything will be alright.
It just takes some time, little girl you're in the middle of the ride.
Everything will be just fine, everything will be alright.
That was when I started skipping to the song and singing along with it. I didn't even notice when I finished crossing two blocks.
As I still kept swaying to the song the park came into my view in the corner of my eye. There is this park near my house just a few minutes away and there is a tree there that I call "My Dream Tree" . I come there every Friday night to relax my mind and stare at the twilight sky with ease. It's really relaxing and Seth commented once that that's probably were I do yoga and rituals and stuff. I just rolled my eyes and said,"Sure, Seth, you found my secret and you better not rat me out to the others or I'll put a dark spell on you...And boy that won't be good since your dealing with a witch here." His eyes bulged out for a long second and the next thing you know he was crossing the field away from me. You have no idea how much I was laughing that day! Ha!
I giggled a bit more at that memory and decided as I got nearer to the park's entrance that I would go greet my tree for a bit.
As I started crossing the park to my tree I suddenly heard a gurgling sound to my left. I stopped for a minute and cocked my head to the side as the gurgling sound continued, but fainter this time. As it stopped the sound of dragging came in earshot. Then voices came in this confusing picture.
As they got nearer I tiptoed to a bush that was near the edge of the park. The grass was tall here and it tickled my bare ankles as I got on my knees and peeked through them to the other side.
I regretted doing that and I had to cover my mouth with both my hands to hide my shock as I surveyed the scene above me.
The first thing I noticed was blood. Blood on the grass. And a sneaker on the mud. Further away from me were four figures standing over a silent, bruised figure. I couldn't see any of their faces because they had their backs to me and were dressed in black. But I could see the person laying in the ground and I was speechless as his face came in my view.
His face was...it was just horrible. It was bloody, bruised, and just horrible. I couldn't even identify any of his features! His clothes were in the same condition. He laid unmoving in the ground, but his eyes were open and they were focused on the person--male--in front of him who held a knife in his hand.
I cringed as light hit the tip of it and how it was covered in blood including his hand. My eyes shakily wandered over the others and they were holding guns and knifes. I saw one throw a bloody bat in the mud...
Oh my god! I have to get away from here or I'm going to end up dead by the hands of these guys! I wish I could help that guy, but I don't think he'll make it to the emergency room.
Before I slowly headed out the guy in the floor starting saying something, but he struggled as he opened his mouth. I froze and looked back. He kept making some choking sounds and shokingly he was able to say something. "Yyou won't...get..way...with it....Seb..astian...wll...kilyou...before...you know it...You won't get away....it...."
The figure in front of him bend toward him and responded with a cold voice,"And who is going to tell? You? Haha, that's amazing. You'll never see light again, Sykes. Hope you burn in hell and well, your little friends will join you later. Sweet dreams, Syke." And with that he snatched a bat from one of his companions and struck this so-called Sykes head with such force that I could feel it echo around my ears.
I covered my mouth as I gasped out loud in horror. Oh my god!! I just witnessed a murder!
Suddenly, catching me off-guard, the murderer got up, and faced his...companions. As he turned around he glanced at my hiding place and met my gaze. I froze with fear as I thought that he caught me, but he didn't see anything. Just an empty park.
I took my opportunity and quickly, but quietly made my way out the park. Then I started running, but my destination wasn't to Jodie's it was away from everything. I needed to...process of what just happened and how I was going to deal with it.
As I ran and ran my mind went back to the murderer. His voice. His figure. His actions. Everything seemed to paralyze my brain in fear.
And it wasn't only that that was bothering me, but something else.
His eyes.
They were blue.
And blank...
Also, they weren't just a group.
They were a gang.
