It's My Fault

Chapter 4

I walked straight to the pasta aisle looking for the twisted kind because I wanted to have it a little fancy. After finding what I was looking for I heard my name being called next to me. "Ellie?" I looked over and saw Rose's mom, "Oh hi Erica." She smiled and opened her arms for a hug. I hugged her and backed up. "Wow it has been a while." I nodded and looked down, "I agree how has the house been? The family?" She looked at the pasta then back at me saying, "Not the same but what can you expect after what happened. How has your father been?" I gave a small smile, "He has been good just really busy with both jobs. Not to be rude but I have to get going I was planning on making dinner for the both of us." She nodded quickly and pulled me in for a goodbye hug, "Of course Ellie tell him I said hello." I waved at her walking away, "Will do." I got back home to see my dad on the couch watching T.V. "Alright I am going to start cooking now. Oh also Erica says hello." My dad turned to face me from the couch, "Oh were did you see her?" I got the water to start boiling and oiled the pan to start cooking. "She saw me in the pasta aisle and then we started talking for a bit." I heard him hum and say, "How did she look?" I sighed and said, "Not the best but better." I saw him nod and went back to watching T.V. When the food was ready I put our food on separate plates and called out, "Foods ready." My dad got up off the couch and walked over to the dinner table. He smelled the air, "Mm smells good." I laughed and sat down, "Alright lets eat." By the time dinner was done it was late at night. "Alright honey I think it's time to go to sleep." I nodded and picked up his and my plate to put into the sink. We both walked to our separate rooms and I quickly changed into my pjs and got into my bed. I am glad my dad was here tonight. I fell asleep with a smile on my face.

The week went along quickly it was now Friday morning. I groaned not wanting to get up. Do I have to go to school? I internally groaned, yes I do otherwise I won't graduate next month. I huffed and swung my legs off my bed. I went to go change and opted for a black sweater that was Rose's with light blue Jean's. I grabbed my phone and saw I had gotten a message from Grace.

Grace: "Project today? After school?"

I quickly responded with a yes and went to the kitchen to eat something. My dad ran in trying to button and zip his pants at the same time. I chuckled to still see his morning bed head, "Dad do you need help?" He smiled and said, "No I got it honey don't worry about it. Continue eating." I shook my head and walked to him. Running my hand through his hair to try and tame it and fix his crooked shirt, "There, much better dad." He hugged me and ruffled my hair making me laugh and push his hand away. We hugged once more and then he left to the warehouse. I figured today I would take my car since I was going to go to Grace's house after school. Once I opened the front door Rose was right outside, "Hey Ellie. Ready to go?" I held up my keys and said, "We are taking the car today." She nodded and we both went to my car. I turned on the radio and we made our way to school singing along until I parked. I sighed and leaned back in my seat, "Almost done with this hell hole." Rose laughed next to me and I looked over smiling. She motioned her head to the school, "Come on let's go." I took a deep breath and got out.  We both walked inside and walked straight to my locker to avoid any of my bullies.  Rose leaned on the lockers next to me, "Gosh I hate this place."  I nodded in agreement and said, "By the way Grace and I are going to work together on our project after school."  I saw her nod in the corner of my eye, "Speaking of Grace."  She walked on the right side of me smiling, "Hey Ellie."  Turning over to her I smiled giving her my full attention, "Hello Grace." Grace asked, "I hope you don't mind but I was thinking once we were done with the project, we could have a movie night?"  I glanced over at Rose and looked back over, "Yeah sure why not."  I heard a slight huff and looked over at Rose.  She was looking down the hall and I raised my eyebrow at her.

Grace happily said, "Cool I'll see you later then."  I nodded and she walked away.  Turning back over to Rose I saw that she was gone.  What is going on with her?  The bell rang breaking my thoughts and went to my class sitting in my normal seat.  Hm I guess Rose isn't going to show in this class.  I shook if off thinking she just needed to blow off some steam.  Class and school went by quickly and still no sign of Rose.  I drove to Grace's house and parked on the street leaving everything but my laptop in my car.  I locked it and went to the front door knocking.  Grace swung open the door and pulled me into a tight hug.  I hugged back with a smile and she pulled me into her house and I saw her parents in the dining room and they both waved when they saw me.  Waving back and Grace and I went to the couch to start on the project.  I opened my laptop and handed Grace it so she could finish her part.  While she worked, I leaned back and watched her concentrate with a slight smile, eyes squinted slightly, hunched over, and her hair would go over her face like her own privacy curtain.  I smiled and looked down at my hands before closing my eyes, hearing the constant hitting of keys.

Flashback
"This party is going to be great!"  I chuckled at an excited Rose while she jumped around my room.  It was going to be our first party, "I still can't believe they invited us quiet juniors to a popular party."  I saw Rose land on my bed with a smile.  "I know.  Isn't it crazy."  I shook my head at her and thought why the football team invited us in the first place.  Rose immediately jumped on the offer when they told us the invite.  I was more confused and not wanting to go because it seemed suspicious .  Rose has always been more outgoing than I was.  I put on my necklace, and then my dad walked into the room, "Hey ladies, are you both ready?"  Rose shot up and nodded excitedly to him.  He laughed, and I walked over to him.  "Thanks dad for letting us go."  He nodded and kissed the top of my head.  I let go and he was immediately tackled in a hug from Rose, "We'll see you later pops."  He chuckled and ruffled her hair a bit and she pushed him off fixing it.  I grabbed her hand and said, "Come on let's go Ro we are going to be late.  See you later dad."  He waved at us and we went out the door.  While still holding hands we walked to the party since it wasn't it too far and Rose said from next to me, "This is going to be fun!"  I mumbled to myself, "I hope so."
