It was now the week of graduation. Grace and I were closer than ever, I considered her my best friend. I hadn't visited my mom considering how busy I was from school and I haven't seen much of Rose either. My dad was finally able to drop the warehouse job so he only had one job now and we were much more financially stable and since I would be done with school I was going to get a job to help out more. Currently, Grace and I were at her house finishing up our last project of the year. "Done finally. No more projects or anything anymore." Grace stretched out on her bed and wrapped her arms around my waist. I laughed and finished writing my last sentence. I closed my book and put it next to Grace's work. "Jeez couldn't even wait until I was done. Gosh, so rude." I heard her laugh against my back, and I tapped her arm. She moved so I could see her face, and that's when I laid down, and she moved, so her head was on my chest and arms still around me. I wrapped my arms around her and started laughing. Grace lifted her head to look at me, "What are you laughing at?" I shook my head and gained my composure back, "Just look how far we've come in less than half a year Grace. I didn't even know you, let alone talk to you, yet here we are on your bed cuddling." She thought about it and laughed, nodding, "I guess you're right. Good thing I talked to you then huh." She wiggled her eyebrows, and I playfully hit her arm rolling my eyes, "Oh shush, but I am glad you did start talking to me." She smiled and put her head back on my chest. A couple minutes later, my phone started ringing. Grace moved off of me so I could sit up and get my phone out of my back pocket. The caller ID read that it was my dad.
"Hey, what's up?"
"Did you and Grace finish the project already?"
"Yeah, why, what's wrong?"
"We need you at the restaurant. There aren't enough people here to work the shifts. Monday's are surprisingly the worst out of the week."
I ran a hand through my hair flipping it to one side.
"I'll be there soon. See you there dad."
"Okay honey and thank you for coming. See you soon."
I hung up the phone and started to pack up my stuff. Grace set her head on my shoulder and asked, "What happened?" I continued to pack and said, "They need me at the restaurant. Apparently, they are short on people, and that today, a Monday is the worst day of the week with the rush of people." I got up and swung my bag on my shoulder, "So I have to go but I'll see you tomorrow at school." She got off her bed and hugged me. I hugged her back and said, "See you tomorrow. Duty calls." She laughed and I left with a smile. I went home first to change into uniform and to leave my bag. I put my hair up while I walked into the restaurant already seeing the people lined up outside. I quickly grabbed an apron and went straight to the front podium to start work. 10:45pm is when my dad and I were finally released from the restaurant. As soon as we got home we both looked at each other and said, "Sleep." We went to our rooms and both knocked out quickly. The next morning I went to school tired and Grace definitely noticed. "Jeez they kept you late didn't they." I nodded and put my head on her shoulder. She chuckled and hugged me, "Poor you. Don't worry you can nap in class since we are basically done anyway." I chuckled and took her hand walking to class. The end of the week came fast Grace and I were at graduation practice. A whole 3 hours of practice that will most likely be unnecessary. Once I got home it wasn't any better, both Grace's family and my dad were running around the house getting stuff ready. Grace and I heard them outside my door but we both were curling each others hair and Grace was putting on some makeup. "Wow this is actually happening now. It feels so surreal." I looked at Grace through the mirror and frowned. Grace noticed and said, "You know they are both going to be there right?" I nodded slowly but didn't meet her gaze. Grace didn't say anything more except for, "All done come on let's get dressed."
