I was shaken out of my thoughts when someone hugged me from behind. "Jeez Grace you gave me a heart attack." I took the bacon and pancakes off the stove so I could move them to a plate. "I'm sorry but I called your name three times. You were in such a deep thought you didn't hear me." I took a deep breath and apologized, "Also I made food." She let go and stood next to me, "Breakfast at noon? I'm okay with that." She smiled sleeply and I put our food on plates. I handed her, her plate and we both walked to the dining room table. We ate while having small talk which also led to the conversation of my mom. I choked on my food for a second before coughing. "Oh my gosh Ellie. I'm sorry I didn't mean for that to happen. You don't have to tell me it's okay." I shook my head and my coughing fit died down, "No it's okay. I just wasn't expecting it." I chuckled and she smiled. She deserves to know. It was going to happen sooner or later. "Well, she um, passed from cancer when I was 12." I looked down at my last piece of pancake. I felt her hand on top of mine for comfort. She gave me a small smile and I smiled back. We finished our breakfast in silence and went to wash our dishes.
When we finished we looked at each other and I asked, "So what do you want to do? It's only 2." She thought about it and said, "How about a walk?" I nodded and started to walk to my room. "Do you want to use some of my clothes to change into?" I looked back at her, and she nodded. "I think you fit into my Jean's, and for sure, you fit into my shirts." I opened my Jean's drawer and motioned to it, "Here pick out some. I am going to wear sweat capris today." I walked to my closet and got a Hogwarts white V-neck shirt. When Grace picked out her Jean's, I opened the drawer under it and got out a pair of plain black capris. I left the room to the bathroom so I could change. By the time I came back, Grace was changed into light blue Jean's with a burgundy T-shirt. I smiled at her and went to brush out my hair and teeth. When I finished, I waited for Grace in the living room. When she walked out, she asked, "Care if we visit my house for a bit?" I shook my head and closed the door behind us locking it. "We can stop by." She smiled and we started our walk. "Ready to go back to school tomorrow?" I quickly shook my head no, "I have to make up Mondays work and today's. I'm not excited at all for that." She laughed and nodded her head. "Yeah I get that. But I have stuff for missing today as well." I agreed but said, "But not for two days." She agreed with that and then we were in front of her house. "Wow that was fast." We both laughed and walked to the front door.
"My parents are at work right now and honestly I'm a little surprised they haven't said anything about me not being at school yet." She shrugged and I walked into the livingroom, "So why exactly did we come here?" She motioned for me to follow her, "I wanted to brush my teeth and hair. But I also realized that you've never seen my room before." We turned to the left and there was a closed door. "Here since I saw your room you can see mine." She opened the door and I was met with many different posters on the wall and a couple of pictures here and there. Her bed was on the left right next to the door while in front of me there was a desk and a bookshelf next to it. The closet was on the right behind the door. "Wow pretty cool setup you have." I walked in and sat on the edge of her bed. She smiled and said, "Thanks. I am going to go brush now, feel free to do whatever for the time being." I nodded and she left the room. I heard her footsteps get further and I looked around the room. I stood up to look at some of the pictures that were on the wall. They were mostly family pictures but there was a couple with just Grace. I smiled and decided to walk back to her bed. I laid back so my feet where still on the floor but I was looking up at the ceiling.
I heard footsteps coming back but I made no effort to move. I heard Grace chuckle and I groaned, "Your bed is so comfortable." I lifted my head to see Grace leaning against her door frame. She smiled and walked over to me. She laid down on top of me or should I say half laid on top of me. Her head and upper body was on my chest while her legs were standing on the floor. I wrapped my arms around her and she did the same. I heard her mumble, "If we stay like this I am going to fall asleep again." I chuckled and tapped her back for her to get up when she did she extended her hand for help. We both made her way out of her house to continue our walk. It was a silent walk but neither of us cared. I thought about telling her or showing her my mother. I wasn't sure if I was ready to do that yet. She deserves to know or see her eventually. Today is just not the day. Suddenly we came across a park and Grace became excited, "Swings!" I chuckled and she sprinted to the swings while I calmly walked over. I decided to push her for a bit so I walked behind her, "Hold on Grace." She giggled when I started to push her. Once she was high enough I walked over and sat on the other swing and started pushing myself and reached her height. We kept swinging until our hips started to hurt from the squeezing of the seat. We both jumped off and ran to the playground. We played on there until we were sweating and out of breath. "Wow we are such kids." We both bursted out laughing and looked up from laying on the grass. A breeze came and I momentarily closed my eyes enjoying the feeling.
I turned my head to the right and saw Rose standing there with a smile on her face. A look of confusion came across my face. When I blinked she was gone. Weird. I looked over at Grace who was smiling while looking up, "A couple more weeks left Ellie." Catching onto what she was talking about I nodded, "Yep then that's it for this chapter of our lives." I heard her sigh next to me then her phone started ringing. She sat up and answered the phone. I zoned out so I wouldn't listen to her conversation. When she was done she looked over at me and I sat up as well. "What's up?" She shook her head and said, "Nothing my parents just called about not being at school today. I'm kind of hungry though want to go get something?" I shrugged and we both got up. We walked in the direction of town and looked around for what we could get to eat. "Pizza sound good?" I shrugged and nodded and we went inside. The service was fast before we knew it we were both stuffed. I groaned and said, "Ugh I am so full. I feel like I am going to explode." She chuckled and said, "Alright we should get going now. It's already 4pm." We both left the restaurant and made our way back to our houses. When we were in front of Grace's I said to her, "Thanks for staying and hanging out with me today Grace." She nodded and brought me into a hug, "No problem Ellie it's always fun when we hangout. See you tomorrow." I nodded against her shoulder, "See you tomorrow."
