[Chaery POV]

“I’m coming” I shouted from my room. I was late already for my class. I woke up late this morning since I was too busy last night finishing my term paper that I will submit to our professor today.

I was running down to our stairs and I went to the kitchen and I saw my mom placing my breakfast on the table. Since I don’t have any time to eat anymore, I just grab the sandwiches and waived goodbye to my mom.

Luckily, there was a bus in the bus stop already, so immediately went to it and sit on the empty sit on the bus.

By the way, I’m Chaery Lee, half Korean and half Filipina. An only child, and sadly, my dad died when I was 3 years old way due to car accident. Since then, my mom raised me alone.

My ordinary day went by and I was already in my last subject.

“ok class, for your final requirements, you need to prepare a stage performance, its your choice whether you will act, sing or dance. We will have the mini show 4 days from now.” Our professor said. My classmates where very excited about it and they even formed groups since it will be a lot easier to perform, but not for me. I decided that I will do a solo performance. It’s not like that I’m an antisocial or something, I just find it better to work on myself alone.

After my class, I went back to our home; I greeted my mom who is watching the TV.

“I’m home!” I shouted as I removed my shoes and put it on the shoe rack.

“you’re back chae, we will have dinner in an hour.” She said as she stood up and went to the kitchen.

“Ne!” I said as I went upstairs, and go inside my room.

I put my bag on the table, and I change into some comfortable clothes. I opened my laptop and do some internet surfing. Since it was only 2 months before I graduate, it was a good thing that I almost finished all of my requirements and the only thing that is left is the requirement for my performing arts class.

An hour passed by and I went down to the kitchen and there I saw my mom, preparing the food.

My mom and I ate our dinner quietly like the usual until she ask me,

“What do you feel right now that you are about to graduate form college soon?”

I was surprised on her question, my mom is the type of person who did not asked questions frequently.

“I was so excited, this achievement was not just for me, it is for us mom. It was the fruit from your hardwork.” I answered as I stood up from my chair and I hugged her.

I felt that my shoulders went a little wet only to find out that my mother is crying.

“I’m gald to know that my dear, I hope you will be able to forgive me and your father on what had we’ve done.” She said as she let go from my hug.

“what do you mean eomma?” I curiously asked.

“You will find out, when the right time comes.” She said. Although I was really curious on her answer, I just tried to forget it and continued eating our dinner.

-AFTER 7 DAYS-

I was holding my chest right now; I was next to perform on the stage. There was a lot of people outisde watching. I thought it was just a mini show, how come there are so many people as the audience.

The last performer already finished his performance. I went behind the red curtain and I waited for the emcee to call my name.

“Ladies and gentlemen, our next performer belongs on the top class in their batch. Let’s all welcome with a warm applause for Ms. Chaery Lee.”

After he announced my name, the red curtain goes up as I placed my hands on the piano keys and played the song

The loneliness of nights alone
The search for strength to carry on
My every hope has seemed to die
My eyes had no more tears to cry
Then like the sun shining up above
You surrounded me with your endless love
Coz all the things I couldn't see are now so clear to me

You are my everything
Nothing your love won't bring
My life is yours alone
The only love I've ever known
Your spirit pulls me through
When nothing else will do
Every night I pray
On bended knee
That you will always be
My everything

Now all my hopes and all my dreams
Are suddenly reality
You've opened up my heart to feel
A kind of love that's truly real
A guiding light that'll never fade
There's not a thing in life that I would ever trade
For the love you give it won't let go
I hope you'll always know

I went on the performance hoping that the one I’m dedicating this song is listening to me right now.

“Mom, this is for you, I hope you could hear this.” I said to myself.

I finished the performance and I was surprised that I received a standing ovation. I bowed down to the audience but what surprised me the most is I saw my mom on the front row, looking at me, clapping her hands all out loud with tears in her eyes. My mother is my eveyrthing, without her and dad, I won’t be able to show my talent to everybody here right now. I owed everything to my parents.

Days flew so fast and it was already my graduation.  I went on the stage in my black toga uniform as I received my diploma. It was one of the happiest moments of my life, to finally graduate form college. After the ceremony, my mom and I went on a hotel restaurant to celebrate it. Although we’re just celebrating with just the two of us, it was truly enjoyable as I looked back and told her the different experiences that I had in college.
