Chapter 2: The Good News

[Chaery POV]

A few months after I graduated from college, I was luckily to land a job as a songwriter in a recording company. I was really enjoying my work since music is my passion. I also experienced working with different artist like Charice Pempengo, Jonalyn Viray etc. in which I also learned a lot not only on the composing itself, but also from their experiences.

This morning, I was surprised that the General Manager called my attention in his office. I knock slightly on his door office before I opened it and went inside.

“Oh! Ms. Lee, please take a sit.” He offered as I sit on the chair infront of his table.

“Good morning sir. May I know why you called me here?” I asked.

“You’re a half korean right? Do you know how to speak Korean?” he asked.

“Yes Sir, my mom taught me when I was a child.” I answered, I was still curious. Although I even declared when I applied on this company about my nationality, I never realized that it will bring about at this point of time.

“Then it will not be a problem then.” He said as grab the folder in his table.

“What do you mean sir?” I curiously asked.

“Our branch in Korea is in need of a passionate composer for their upcoming project, since I received recommendation from your co-workers about your exmplenary works, the management decided to send you their to work with them. So will you accept the offer Ms. Lee?” He briefly said.

I was shocked upon hearing his news; I never crossed in mind that this thing will happen to me. I mean, I’m already contented by just doing what I truly love.

“The pleasure is mine Sir. Thank you so much for this oppurtunity.” I said as I stood up and bowed infront of him.

“You deserve it Ms. Lee. Either way, here is you plane ticket, you will leave the day after tomorrow. “ he said as he handed me the envelope where my plane ticket is placed.

“And also, there is someone in the airport who will fetch you upon your arrival, his name is Kim Jung Hoon. He will explain everything about your work there.” He added.

“Thank you so much Sir.”  I said as I bowed again and leave his office.

I returned to my workplace and as soon as I sitted on my chair, I was attacked by hugs of my officemates.

“congratulations chae!” Feb said, one of the creative artist in our department

“You deserve it girl, don’t forget to bring home a boyfriend”  Chelly said, she is also a songwriter like me.

“Thank you girls! I will miss you!” I said as we all group hug.

“Yah! She will go there to work not to grab a korean boyfriend.” Ken said, he is from the marketing department.

“Just don’t forget about us, okay?” MJ approached, she one of the song arrangers here.

“We’re just a Facebook and Skype away!” Cath said, she is the public relation officer in our company.

“I will miss you guys!” I said as we all formed a group hug.

Our boss was generous enough to give us an early off today since we don’t have much work today and we just completed the last project. My officemates decided to eat in a restaurant and celebrate. We stayed there for a couple hours until we all decided to go home.

As soon as I reached our house, I immediately look for my mom to tell her the news. I saw her in the living room, drinking some tea.

“Your home!” she said as she put down the cup of tea in the table.

“Eomma! I have a news for you!” I said.

“omo! Don’t tell me? Who is the lucky guy?” she smilingly asked.

“Eomma! Its not about having a boyfriend. It was about work.” I said as I pouted.

“oh! I thought that my girl is already a lady, anyway, what is it about work?” she asked.

“Our company will send me to korea to work for a special project. Finally! I will be able to see where dad grew up.” I excitedly said.

My mom’s expression changed suddenly and she hold my hand and she said.

“Chae dear, are you sure you want to go there?”

“Of course eomma! It was like a dream come true for me. Are you not happy for me?” I asked.

“No, I mean, I’m happy for you that you have given this kind of oppurtunity, either way, just be careful there okay?” she said as she pulled me into a hug.

We stayed in that moment until she let go from my hug.

“So when do you leave?”

“The day after tomorrow, I will start packing my things by tomorrow.” I said.

After I have some little conversations with her, I went up to my room to rest.

The next day, I woke up early. It was my last day here in the Philippines, so I decided to spend the whole day inside the house. After I had my breakfast with mom, she told me that she will just go outside of the house to get something. After she left, I went back to my room and I pulled out my suitcase. I started packing my clothes first, then some of my compositions. I also decided to pack some of my instruments like my keyboard, violin and my guitar. I just felt that they will come in handy to me. As soon as I finished packing everything, I felt that my phone vibrated, I look at the caller ID and it was the general manager.

“Hello?”

“Hi Ms. Lee, are you at your home right now?” he asked.

“Yes Sir, I just finished packing my things. Why sir?” I asked.

“I was right on time. Your stuff will be moved first to Korea, someone is one the way to your house now to pick up your things. So that when you reached there, everything is already settled.” He said.

“omo! Thank you sir! Thank you so much!.” I said as he hung up the call.

One by one, I bring down my things from my room, I only have 2 Luggages for my clothes and necesitties and the 3 big stuff for my instruments. After a few minutes someone knock in our door, and pick up my things.

After I thank the person who pick up my things, I went back to my room to rest for awhile. Packing stuff is really a hard work. But I was thinking on what would be my life there? With this thought, my eyes became heavy and I went to dreamland.
