"Left!"
"No, right!"
"Taehyung...I helped the association build these tunnels."
"But I made the map for them! We should go right!"
A slight nudge on my shoulder surprises me. Jin hands me a bowl of popcorn. "Thanks," I smile wearily.
Yoongi and Taehyung have been going at it for a while now. For the last hour, we've been standing here, debating which way to go.
"Don't you remember the time we escaped from !@#$%&? That time, we went right."
Rubbing my ears, I frown and try to discern what Taehyung just said. Is the author trying to hide something from me?
"Yeah, but what about the second time we ran from !@#$%&? Hadn't they collapsed the first tunnel?"
"You're confusing the first safehouse with the third safehouse. Come on, we've gone over this. !@#$%& has always chosen the left path. That time, we went right," Taehyung pouts.
Author-nim, cut it out. I glance at the other Bangtan boys to see that they're also rubbing at their ears and tilting their heads, as if water had clogged them. Changmin is occupied with shaking his head, as if something is clouding his mind.
I have half a mind to tell Yoongi and Taehyung to just end it with a game of rock paper scissors, but just as I take a step forward, an ominous rumbling shakes me to the core.
Shocked, I glance at the ceiling, watching as small rocks and debris start to fall from the cracks. The carefully crafted stone ceiling starts to shift, but it delicately settles in a new position.
"We need to go," Jin growls. "We're going right." He picks up his bag and his popcorn and jogs into the right tunnel. "Come on! They're bombing the surface. We need to pick up our pace."
Bombing the surface? Are they planning to collapse the tunnels?
The other guys heave most of the bags up and trudge into the right tunnel as the sounds continue to occur up above.
The stress starts gnawing at my heart. I quickly grasp the last bag.
A fleeting, painful feeling whacks my forehead. Overcome with nausea, I fall back. With my vision blurred, I narrow my focus on the rock that had bashed against my head.
"Y/N, watch out!" A deafening rumble from above sends me into a panic. I scuttle backwards and narrowly avoid the collapse of several large stones. The thought of having one of those hit my head sends a shiver through my spine.
The stones keep crumbling and falling until I can't see the right tunnel anymore. A dull throbbing begins to bombard my heart.
"Guys?"
No reply.
"Guys!"
With alarm, I realize the stones are falling on the left side as well.
Run for it.
I launch myself into the left tunnel and barely miss a huge cluster of sediment. I managed to drag whatever bag I took with me, but as the last of the stones settle, I find that I can't see behind me anymore. I've been completely cut off. There's only lighting up ahead.
Crap. Not good.
A ringing noise sends my heart racing. I fumble with my back pocket and pull out my phone.
Well, my new phone. We'd scrapped all the old ones for fear of being tracked.
Just as I'm about to answer, the signal cuts off. Panicked, I wave it in the air and pray for reception of some kind. When I try to get up, an immense discomfort radiates from my right ankle.
