Hermione felt safe in his arms. The warmth of his body against hers, his arms holding her close as he effortlessly guided her on the dance floor. His warm, minty breath against her cheek, his steady heartbeat calming her wild emotions. It was like a fairy tale – magical.

"Draco?" He looked down at her, his grey eyes piercing her own.

"Yeah?" The calm undertone of his voice was strong.

"I think we're doing something right." She smiled and leaned her head against his chest, closing her eyes and breathing his heavenly scent in. Though she couldn't see it, she knew Draco had his own smile on his lips. Their intimate moment was short lived when someone tapped Draco's shoulder.

"Mind if I cut in?" The voice was eerily familiar to Hermione. She looked over Draco's shoulder and saw Cormac Mclaggen standing there with hopeful yet sly eyes. Draco looked at Hermione warily and she nodded. Cormac took Hermione's hand and wrapped his muscled arm around her waist.

"What do you want, Cormac?" Hermione's voice was curt. She had plenty bad memories with the boy currently leading her across the floor in dance.

He frowned. "Can an old friend not simply want to talk?" His voice was smug. Hermione rolled her eyes and looked at him with a looked that said "really?"

"Cormac, last time I saw you, talking was the last thing you had in mind." Her voice was strong and annoyed. His hand that held her waist slid slightly lower.

"This dress should be illegal, baby." Hermione grimaced. If there was one thing she hated, it was pet names such as baby or babe. "It does things to me, you know? Things I won't dare say out loud." His hand was dangerously close to her arse and she did not like it.

"Cormac let go." She whispered while trying to put more space between them.

"Oh, come on, baby, just one touch." He winked. Her stomach was churning. She felt like she was going to be sick.

"Stop!" Her voice was louder and her shoving became stronger. She didn't want to cause a scene but this was bordering on her limits.

"Aw, don't tell me this is because of Malfoy? You can't honestly think he cares for you," He laughed a sick laugh, "Hermione, you are less than dirt to him. He hates you. He's only using you, baby." He whispered close in her ear. The feeling of his breath on her made her sick.

An ache was born in her heart as she considered his words. What if he was right? What if she was only a pawn in Draco's game. Her eyes were moist. Her thoughts were broken by the feeling of Cormac's and sliding closer and closer to her behind.

"Cormac stop it!" A few couples nearby eyed them with curiosity. Her pleas fell on silent ears as his hand kept moving down and finally it reached it's destination. Hermione pushed against him vigorously, trying to throw him away from her, but he was much stronger than she was.

"Shh...enjoy it." His voice was deep and rough. This was too much, tears were streaming from Hermione's eyes. She looked around to see if anyone noticed his assault but to her dismay, they were all preoccupied.

A familiar burn formed deep inside her. She knew it was only moments before she lost control and in all honestly, she didn't try to stop it. The fire grew and soon her eyes were a blinding white. Cormac looked into them and a look of fear imprisoned his face.

Hermione could feel a new surge of power boiling in her and without thinking she pushed him off her. His body hit the wall with immense force and gasps filled the room. Hermione walked to the boy on the floor. He crawled as far back as he could but he found himself trapped between the powerful and raging witch and a wall.

"Hermione, I-I am so sorry, I –"

Hermione raised her hand up, her palm facing him. The small gesture stopped his words and silenced him completely. It was as if she had placed a silencio  charm on him. He looked at her in utter fear, his body trembling violently.

"When I tell to stop touching me, you bloody stop touching me!" Her voice was laced in malice. Just as she was about to raise her wand to do more damage a warm and familiar hand encased her wrist. She looked at the person and suddenly her whole body was calm again.

His grey eyes searched her now brown orbs with worry and concern. "D-Draco?" Her whole demeanour suggested that she was disoriented, as if she had just been possessed by an entirely different person. Draco pulled her into a bone-crushing hug and rubbed her back soothingly.

"It's okay." He cooed gently, his movements never ceasing. Her breathing stabilized as she listened to his heartbeat. "Are you OK?" He pulled back and gripped her shoulders firmly but in a concerned manner. She nodded and he helped her to her feet, walking her over to the table where the others were seated, staring at them with complete shock.

The ball ended after the unwelcomed event and the students were back in their common rooms. Draco had pulled Hermione to their room and locked the door behind him, making sure to place a silencing charm on the room.

Hermione sat on the edge of her bed, staring into thin air with a blank face. Draco watched her for a few moments and took a seat next to her, lifting his hands to turn her head to him. Their eyes met and almost immediately they both calmed down considerably.

Odd.

"What happened tonight?" he asked cautiously as he caressed her cheek gently with his thumb. She closed her eyes and leaned into his touch instinctively. She looked so calm, feeling safe and protected around her childhood enemy. It was anything but normal but at the time it just felt right.

So wrong yet so right...

"He touched me, Draco... It was horrible." Draco's worried expression immediately turned scarily cold and stern. His body tensed and he could feel his hands trembling with anger and rage.

How dare he touch something that belonged to Draco!

"Hey...don't worry about it. I think he got the message." Hermione quickly added in attempt to calm him a bit. He looked at her a slowly nodded. Hermione knew he was most definitely not going to let it go but it was good enough for now.

Draco lifted her gently and held her close on his lap. He knew he would regret this in the morning but seeing her like this – vulnerable and fragile – was breaking him. He rocked her quivering body to sleep while running his fingers through her hair. Before Hermione slipped into a fully unconscious state, Cormac's words invaded her mind.

"Hermione, you are less than dirt to him. He hates you. He's only using you, baby."
