We were sitting on my bed with Roza's back against my chest, my legs wrapped around her waist and my chin rested on her collarbone.
"Aww. Isn't that adorable?" Roza cooed.
We'd just opened album one to find a photo of a six year old me speaking against Janine's bump that became my Roza.
                              "That's embarrassing." I responded.
"Oh, Come On. It's you. You're adorable."
"Unh-uh. You, my Roza, are the definition of adorable."
"Fine." She sighed. "What's the first page of the diary say?"
"The day of Janine's five month scan. Today she found out she was having a girl and Dimka's automatic response was an excited "my Roza!" "And 'the Romitri' begins." Karo laughed." I quoted. "God, that's worse than the picture."
"Nope. Absolutely not!" My Roza turned her head to peck my cheek.
We kept turning pages, cooing and groaning over pictures and the accompanying stories.
"Aww." We both sighed when we saw the picture of me holding her in the hospital. It was totally adorable.
"What's the diary say, my Dimka?"
"The first person other than Janine to hold Roza is Dimka. Already, he is the best at calming her. He loves her, she is oh, so precious to him. He holds her tenderly and securely with a look of fierce determination to protect her and complete and utter admiration. "You are beautiful, my Roza. I will protect you, always- I promise," is the first thing he said to her with awe and steel in his voice. She settled and in his arms and sighed after he spoke."
"Oh good god. My mother must have hated that a six-almost-seven year old could settle me." She started to yawn.
"It's got a note here, "it has been noted that Janine did not notice that, nor react to, Dimka being the best at calming her. She did not see the unbreakable connection that was so clearly forged in that moment." Unbreakable connection is most definitely accurate." I stifled a yawn with a sigh before kissing her cheek. "Enough. You're exhausted and we have training tomorrow." An idea hit me. "Roza?"
"Ye-" she yawned again and laid her head back against my chest.
                              "You want combat too, right?"
"Yes." She said sleepily, her eyelids drooping.
"How about we add an extra hour? Morning and night? I know you wanted tonight off but I know you know you need the hours. We can simultaneously work your fitness back up to 'excellent' and teach you the techniques to catch up and surpass your peers. Please my Roza, let me guide you to greatness."
She looked into my eyes, "yes, my cheesy comrade, my Dimka."
She smiled, yawned one last time and fell asleep on my chest, in my arms.
I carefully shifted the album and diary to my bedside table, marking the pages, and gently manoeuvred us so the covers were pulled up. She snuggled closer and I fell into the most peaceful sleep I'd had in years. My dreams were filled with all the happy memories of Roza's first four years.
I awoke before her, and about an hour before training was due to start. All I could do was stare adoringly at my Roza. She had certainly grown, her beauty exponentially so. She was my soul mate and I was hers. I woke her up gently about half an hour before training was due to start.
                              "Roza."
"Mmmm." She mumbled. God, the woman was adorable.
"Roza. You need to get ready for training."
                              "Hmm?"
I chuckled slightly. "You're not in Portland Roza. I hate to say it, but, you're back at the academy and we have training."
That got a reaction from her. "Dimitri? What ha- oh!" She started shocked and confused, then softened after she realised what had changed last night, as she remembered our past. "Morning my Dimka." She smiled softly and I kissed her forehead.
"Morning my Roza. I hate to kick you out, but we do have appearances to keep up." We'd be sneaking around all year. It was worth it though. She was so worth it.
"Hmm. Yeah. We do. We also have another four albums and diaries to go through."
"Hmm. You're going to need them as memory triggers more than I do. Most of mine flooded back last night."
"Yeah, I'm gonna. Tonight?" She asked hopefully.
I smiled. "Yes. Sneak in after curfew. I hear you have a legendary status for not being caught while sneaking around." I pecked her cheek.
"Yeah. I do." She rolled out of bed after kissing my cheek. "You have more to show me than just combat." She winked saucily and I growled.
"Roza. I've barely had you back two days. Now you're the one laying it on thick."
"You know you love me." She teased playfully and smirked.
"Yeah. I do. That's the problem." I returned the banter.
"As if! I'll see you in the gym." She snuck out and I sighed. She'd been back with me for two days and my life already felt so much better.
