We eventually headed back to school, Lissa riding in the car I had been sharing with Dimitri. I looked at him via the rear view mirror with 'definitely more like our child than charge' radiating through my eyes. And, being my soul mate, he read it and nodded, 'most definitely more like our child' radiating back through his eyes. My lips twitched as my indication I'd gotten the response and his own lip-twitch showed me he'd caught it.

Victor was tossed into the schools holding cells. And he'd called me in before training the following morning, something about being 'shadow kissed'. I made sure I had my stake with me wherever I went now, so of course it was with me.

"Victor." I greeted tersely. We'd learnt he'd figured out Lissa's power, and that it had a name- 'Spirit'. He'd also tried to kidnap her in order to force her to heal him. It backfired, big time.

"Ah, Rosemarie."

"I hate that name. It's not me. Now. Vic. What about enlightening the shadow kissed in the room?"

"I'll get to that. That charm was expensive. Shame it didn't work quite as well as I'd hoped." Charm? That was new.

"What charm Victor?"

"The one I put in that rose necklace." Ahh, the one that had come off before I'd been pulled into Lissa's head.

"Ahh. That charm didn't even get activated before it got switched off."

"What?"

I smirked evilly at that. "Your timing was off. I took that necklace off almost as soon as I was dragged out of the gym. It was heavier and more irritating than it looked." In other words, my illicit activities with Dimitri had been all us. "You clearly didn't notice the wardrobe change."

"Oh, I noticed it all right."

"And jumped to the wrong conclusions. Now, shadow kissed?"

"Ahh. Yes. That." An almost fanatical look entered his eye, and a matching passion rang in his voice as he explained.

I heard a noise at the entrance and saw an-all-too-pale-Natalie. She was Strigoi and I was about to take her down. My stake came out and I went on the attack. I refused to hesitate. All I saw was a threat, one I needed to take out, and take down as quickly as possible. I got my opening and used it. My stake pierced her heart quickly and efficiently. The undead life faded and I removed my stake.

I turned on Victor. "Seriously?! A Strigoi Natalie?! You're worse than one! All of your brilliant schemes backfired because you didn't know your enemy. Me! You clearly didn't pay attention to the fine details. Maybe I need to give you a refresher class on 'how to be a scheming mastermind' because, quite clearly, this seventeen year old is more advanced." I shook my head, time to teach him my daddy dearest's first rule. "Lesson number 1) know your enemy." I turned and stormed out. And ran into Dimitri as he was about to enter the lobby before the security check point.

"Rose?"

"Take a look for yourself. Natalie's doing."

"How you feeling? I can see you've clearly taken her down." He gestured up and down my body and looked to the stake still in my hand, the one I still couldn't release my grip on.

"Physically? I'm okay, nothing I can't handle. Emotionally? I'm still fuming at him. At Dashkov." When he raised his brow in question I simply said, "he broke Daddy's first rule."

"Good god. Don't tell me you just gave Dashkov an 'how to be a scheming mastermind' refresher did you?" He laughed.

"All his plans backfired and he's in jail." I shrugged my shoulders.
