Sunset Strip, 1981.
(Gwen's point of view)Work was on my mind after the day Nikki brought me back to his apartment. Everyday I worked my ass off to earn money that I could eventually use towards mine and Chrissy's rent for the month or as spare cash I could keep for a rainy day.
I also wanted to work to ignore the fact that Nikki was being so kind to me recently. I found it very strange. So strange that it made me think what if we argued over something that was over more than a drunk topic.
I often found myself thinking about him when he wasn't at the Whiskey for the past few days. When I wasn't thinking about him, Jane would be there reminding me of his existence with her constant blabbering. In all reality, I was thinking of him all day and everyday. It was a continuous battle with his presence and mentioning, and their was no way I was going to let him and everyone else win this war.I passed out beers, shots, and other types of drinks until my feet were sore and the customers were complaining about how slow I was moving. When you work at a bar, you get to a point where you're so busy that you have to help out the bartenders when you're not doing anything. I always had to keep myself occupied. It kept my mind off specific things. Anyways, helping the bartenders had to be the simple stuff though. There was no mixing cocktails or anything that required a shaker. I was to only get beer bottles and pour shots of liquor straight.
I was carrying a big platter with a round of Jose Cuervo tequila when I nearly crashed into a person's side. I muttered a quick 'sorry' and carried on bringing the round of shots to the customer's table.
"A round of Jose Cuervo, as promised." I simply smiled while laying the tray in the middle of the table.
The table of four grinned at the round of shots and didn't stop themselves for a split second before diving in to grab a glass.
I turned myself around to head back to the bar so I could get other customers their drinks, and carry on with my shift but I was abruptly stopped by a dark figure standing behind me. My heart stopped for a split second, nearly scaring the daylights out of me.
"Gwen, hey!" Nikki greeted, adding a nervous chuckle with his words.
"Hi," I huffed and moved past him with no emotion to my face after collecting my thoughts.
I wanted to not get in trouble for having Nikki on my ass during my shift. If Jane sees that her old garbage item is following me around then I will surely be screwed out of this job.
I went behind the bar to fetch a few beers but it wasn't until I heard his voice was when I realized that he was trying to be serious.
"Gwen, can I talk to ya in private?" He asked leaning over the counter slightly.
