Mar's Mountain, 1982.
(Gwen's point of view)He said he would never give up on us. He swore he would keep trying, but what would it cost? I wanted it to cost him nothing when I had finally got over it but it was all too much for me to handle.
Every time I saw him on television doing an interview or being mentioned on the news for a ghastly song title, I would feel like I had a whole in my heart.
It had been a year since the incident between me and Nikki. Some things have changed but not a lot. I had a new job. I was working at a spa as a masseuse. I didn't make as much as I did at the Whiskey but it was enough to get me by and earn my keep with Chrissy and Mick.
I started living with them after Nikki broke my window with a brick. I decided that enough was enough, and I changed my address. However, I never got my security deposit back from my landlord. It's more than likely that he replaced the window with the money.
I was sitting at Chrissy and Mick's new home. I was lounging on the pool deck in a layback chair. I had a cigarette in my hand just enjoying the seclusion on the top of this mountain.
I would take a drag anytime there was a gust of wind or if I saw a small bird fly past. I watched a landscape of trees and bushes sway in the breeze as I thoroughly thought about my life and what has become of it.
With every inhale and exhale of smoke, I had thought thoroughly about Nikki. To this day, I still can't get him out of my head. Probably because every time I turn my head he's doing an interview or the band is on the cover of a magazine. I was forever haunted by Mötley Crüe, but not just the entire band. Only the bass player who I fell head over heels for.
I heard a set of heels clicking on the marble flooring of the house until they stopped near the sliding glass door that led to where I was.
"The guys are doing an interview. You wanna watch it with me?" I heard Chrissy ask.
If I was still the Gwen from the year before I would say "not only no, but fuck no", but since I'm trying to better myself, I gave in.
"Yeah. Hold on a sec." I muttered, taking my last drag of my cigarette.
Afterwards, I stomped it out and made my way inside with Chrissy. So far she's been very helpful with the whole breakup thing. I just wish she never said "I told you so" after I was starting to come around.
I still held a grudge with Nikki. Any time someone would mention him to me I felt like ripping my ears off and storing them in a drawer. I never wanted to hear his name or look at his face anymore but with the amount of technology and media in this world, it was entirely impossible.
When I sat on the couch with Chrissy, the interview was already in full swing. They were talking about the next album 'Shout At The Devil'. Well, more like Nikki and the interviewer since he doesn't know when to stop himself from talking.
It was all the usual until the interviewer popped a few questions for the band.
"So when people say sex, drugs, and rock n' roll, do they mean it in a good way or a bad way?" She asked.
"Well, everyone has their own version. Like Vince." Nikki pointed to the blonde singer next to him.
"His is a mix of good and bad. I mean, we like to brag about the bad stuff we do because it's our reputation. We like to do it because it's what we know.""Yeah." Tommy chuckled then looked at the interviewer. "Is that why you threw a brick into Gwen's window last year? Because you were trying to be bad?"
I was proud of Tommy for finally speaking up in an interview. Nikki had his mouth ajar, shrugging, while the interviewer raised her eyebrows and smirked curiously. "Who's Gwen, Nikki?"
I could see Nikki's face freezing by that question. He stammered a bit but after a few moments of clarity he smiled to himself.
"She's my girlfriend." He simply said, making Tommy and Vince laugh under their breaths while Mick just chuckled. The interviewer pursed her lips and raised her eyebrows in an interested manner. "Girlfriend!"
"Ex girlfriend." Tommy corrected, making Nikki's head snap to him.
"She never said that we were done or anything, so she's still my girlfriend." Nikki defended but the argument didn't stop there.
"Dude, you cheated on her. That automatically means you both are done." Tommy explained.
"Just ask Vince. He'll tell you straight up." Mick chimed, making the interviewer giggle.
Vince's face was turning red from laughing so much at his band mate. Nikki just clenched his jaw before standing up. Immediately the censors on the television started blaring to hide the curse words he was saying.
Beep "this. And"
beep "you," beep "holes."He walked off the set, leaving the three other band members and the interviewer with wide eyes.
"Well," The interviewer said, trying to carry on. "He's in denial."
I stared at the television with my jaw dropped and my eyes almost as big as dinner plates. I didn't want to look at Chrissy but I did anyhow. She had wide eyes but she shook her head.
"I told you he was messed up."*A/N*
I know it's unusual for a book to do but I'm going to let the years past because it's like a past to present type of situation except the present will be 1989 or sometime around it.Just bear with me on this, please and thank you! Sorry if it's turning out like crap.
