Carl
"Carl!" Cailee yelled from the living room. I jogged down the stairs in a hurry.
"Yeah, baby?"
She sighed and reached out for me, "Help me up, please," I chuckled and pulled her up. "It's not funny, I'm fucking humongous."
"And still beautiful as ever," I said sternly. She rolled her eyes and I kissed her on her forehead. "You want a sandwich?"
"Yes," she trailed off as she waddled up the stairs. I made my way into the kitchen and made two of my award-winning turkey and cheese sandwiches. I set our plates on the coffee table and just when I started eating mine, Cailee's phone went off.

I shook my head and sighed. Cailee's dad had been trying to get in contact with her since Thanksgiving. Sometimes I'd over hear Aubrey talking on the phone with him and their mom about catching up or whatever, but I didn't think Cailee would be down for that.
"That was like the fifth time I've peed in three hours," Cailee groaned, sitting down next to me. "Fuck, that looks good." She picked up her sandwich and went to town on it.
"Your dad texted you again..." I blurted out. Her happy attitude seemed to fade almost instantly and I regret saying anything.
"So what?"
"So, maybe you should talk to him."
She glared at me, "Talk to him about what? Leaving my sister and I on Aunt Lily's doorstep?"
I sighed, "I understand how shitty being abandoned feels, and you know that. I know it's been basically your whole life since you've seen him or your mom, but at least he's trying to be a part of your life now," Cailee just shook her head. "Well if not for him, do it for your brother."
Cailee slouched down into the couch and messed with her fingers. "Fine, I'll go see him. But only for my brother," She picked her phone up and texted her dad back, "And you're coming too."
Cailee
My mood was still on 'fuck my parents,' but when Carl brought my brother up I softened a bit.
"You're sure that's a good idea?" Carl asked.
"Maybe not, but I need you there with me."
"Then I'll be there, right by your side."

The Next Day
Carl and I pulled up to Patsy's to meet with my dad and my brother Aiden, who drove down from Michigan together. A diner seemed like the perfect place to talk at.
"Ugh, I'm nervous," I said as Carl and I took a seat at a booth.
"It'll be fine, baby," Carl placed his hand over mine. My phone went off in my pocket and my heart started thudding in my chest.
I took a deep breath, "They're here."
My dad walked in with who I assumed to be Aiden behind him. Carl and I stood up to greet them.
