TIMECODES
。。。
"hyung, did you get the previous victim files yet?" jeno asked, his phone clamped in-between in ear and shoulder while he flips through the current victim's file.
"yeah, do you just want me to drop it off at your place?"
"that'd be perfect. thanks! see ya later!" the male hung up then went back to focusing on the file in hand.
jeno's office was a whole mess. it looked like a hurricane had came through the place. papers were thrown around the room, random sticky notes were stuck onto odd places, and empty cups of tea were placed here and there.
but this was all part of jeno's process.
everything may seem a mess from the outside, but the boy's mind connected things differently. he needed this mess so that he could have order.
with his glasses barely hanging onto his face, he rushed to the other side of the room to pick up a sticky note he left a while back when he was brainstorming.
' cameras ' was scribbled messily onto the paper, it could possibly a piece of the puzzle that was going to fit into the big picture. carrying it over to his desk, he stuck it onto the file. a while ago, jeno was going through some security footage of when the crime took place. he noticed that at the approximate time the kills were take place, the time codes on each camera corresponded with each other.
if he was right about this, he would be one step closer into finding who 'nana' is.
then as if one cue, the doorbell rung. jeno immediately rushed out, almost tripping on his way over to the get the door.
"johnny! thank god, you're just in time. come in, i think i might've found something." pulling the taller in, he showed him the sticky note on the file.
"camera? yeah, we haven't caught them on camera at all. the most we've gotten was a blurred shadow but that's it--"
"no, no! i know that, but haven't you noticed the time code in the security camera footages?" jeno opened up the laptop on his desk and started to pull up the security footage he was sent.
each of the tabs he pulled up, he separated them on his screen so each tab was seen on one screen. he played every single one until the estimated time of death for the victim then stopped it on that frame.
johnny stood there and watched the younger work. his eyebrows were creased and his eyes were focused on the screen. he could even see the slight excitement in his eyes when he was working his magic on the laptop.
"now, look at all of the time codes." jeno tilted the laptop screen upwards so johnny could see, and the look on his face was priceless.
"they're all the same." he said in awe.
"exactly." jeno grabbed his pen and a brand new sticky note, and wrote down the time code: 08:13:00;14. "now, we just need to find out what these numbers mean."

"august thirteenth is national left-handers day. do you think the suspect is left handed?" taeyong asked once jeno and johnny came to the station to review what jeno had figured out.
"i don't think we should rule that out, but i think we should get more personal don't you think? like a birthday?" jeno suggested, "do you think the seconds represent a year? i doubt this is a work of an a hundred and twenty two year old, so let's try the year 2000."
"okay, say that is our suspect's birthday. what does the fourteen mean then?" johnny asked, pointing at the number on the screen.
"it could mean anything really, but i think we should stick with the birthday and left handed theory for the time being." the youngest of the group recommended, pushing up the bridge of his glasses.
"right. now we just have to pull up people with that birthday and that are left handed. keep up the good work jeno." taeyong patted the younger's shoulder then dismissed the two out of his office.
on their way out, jeno had a bright smile plastered onto his face. his uncle noticed this and nudged the male's side playfully ,"thanks to my nephew, we're one step closer than we would have been without you."
"oh c'mon johnny, we still have a long way to go. that was like nothing and there's a possibility that those numbers could mean nothing at all." jeno added, his smile fading a bit.
"you gotta stop doubting yourself like this kiddo. that yellow coat case? nobody could solve it, but you did. don't you think you have some kind of talent?" the elder encouraged, trying to raise the male's spirits.
"that was just pure luck."
"sure it was jeno, sure it was. alright, listen here, how about we go to the bar tonight to loosen up? sound good to you?" once johnny mentioned the bar, jeno's mind went straight to the pink haired male he met the night before.
for some strange reason, a burst of energy surged through his veins. a wave an excitement hit him as well. the taller man looked at his nephew's change of body language and facial expression, and sent him an odd look.
"what's so exciting about going to a bar jeno?" johnny inquired skeptically, one of his brows arched up high.
"u-um, nothing! just excited to get something to drink." a nervous smile was etched onto the male's face, not ready for johnny to find out about jaemin yet.
you see, when johnny hears or even smells the slight presence of romance, he will go off. love advice? he's got it. date spots? also got it. a helpless romantic? basically him in a nutshell.
before he let's johnny start with his romance talk, he wanted to confirm this feeling first. was it just an infatuation? or was it something more?
only time could tell for the young detective in training.
