CHOCOLATE LIPS
。。。
ice cream made everything better.
that's what jeno's mother always told him. whenever the male would have a bad day or needed to turn that frown upside down, his mother would take him out and treat him to the delectable dessert that brought smiles to many around the world.
and so, it only made sense for him to share this delight with another he cared for.
he opened the door for jaemin, then followed in right after. the place brought many memories from his childhood back to him. the building itself had some minor renovations, but the feel of it was still there. bright pastel pink, yellow, and blue adorned most of the walls with the addition of posters with popular cartoon characters printed onto them. people of all ages were also occupying some of the table in the parlor as they all were enjoying their choice of ice cream.
"oh my, jeno is that you?" he turned around to see the old man that ran this whole shop with the help of a few. the man had to squint his eyes and push up his glasses to see better.
he's aged more definitely, but the spark in his eyes never faded. jeno could still remember going up to that very counter and not being able to see any of the flavors, so his mother always had to pick him up to let him have an overview of the different flavors.
"mr. jung! it's been too long." jeno greeted, excitedly dragging jaemin with him over to the counter where the man stood behind.
"how long has it been since you've been here huh? and look how tall you've grown! i could remember you being such a tiny kid that you couldn't even see over the counter." the old man recalled, the corners of his eyes crinkling up into an eye smile.
seeing jeno like this, reminded of his own son. wherever he is now, the man hopes he's doing well. for now, he's just glad to see a familiar face again after so many years.
"any who, i see you've brought someone here with you. a friend of jeno's i suspect." mr. jung switched his attention to the pink haired male that stood slightly behind jeno.
"yes. we met just recently and today we're doing a 'hang out' as mr. handsome over here calls it." he nudged jeno's side playfully and sent the old man a friendly grin.
"hang out or not, our ice cream would surely slap a brighter smile on the face of yours buddy. now, what flavor would you two kiddos like? i got originals like vanilla to exotic flavors like mango dragonfruit." the old man slid over to the buckets of ice cream in the glass casing.
jeno and jaemin walked over to the glass and stared at the various options to choose from. the elder male felt like he was a little kid again, picking out his favorites again in his mother's hold.
"i'll take the peach sorbet in a cup please." jaemin looked over to jeno after he placed his order and saw little sparkles in his eyes.
"i assume good old chocolate for you then?" mr. jung asked, a waffle cone already in hand.
"you know it."
after getting their cold treats, they went over to their chosen table near the window. for a while, the two sat their in comfortable silence to just enjoy what they ordered.
with every bite, jeno could feel the wave of nostalgia hit him like a gentle breeze, comforting and fluttery. he recalled moments with his mother in this very parlor enjoying their cones of ice cream, whilst talking about miscellaneous things.
"i'd have to say, i do feel a bit better with this sorbet in my system." jaemin commented, bringing jeno back into reality.
"what'd i tell ya? ice cream is always the best cure for a bad day." the elder claimed triumphantly as he waved his spoon around in the air like a wand.
a bit of sorbet was smudged at the corner of jaemin's lips and the other didn't seem to notice, so jeno took that chance to pull a small cliche. picking up his napkin, he reached over to the younger and wiped the bit off of the corner of his mouth.
not expecting the sudden action from jeno, jaemin went into a frozen daze as he watched the elder lean over to his side. the way jeno gently touched his skin sent a minuscule spike of electricity up his spine.
it confused him at first, as to why he felt that way. the only time he would only feel anything close to that was when he was watching someone die right before him, as morbid as it sounds, it was true.
but this, this was different and jaemin didn't know what to think of it.
keep up the act. you need to keep up the act. snap the fuck out of it, he mentally told himself then broke out of the daze he was in.
"pulling a romantic cliche on me already, handsome?"
"i-i...uh...you caught me." jeno admitted shyly, fiddling with his finger underneath the table.
"don't worry, two can play at that game."
then with that, jaemin stood up and leaned over to jeno's side of the table. he placed one of his arms onto the table to hold himself up while his other hand cupped one of jeno's cheeks, making him face him directly.
he could see the bit of anxiousness and excitement that danced around in the latter's dark brown eyes as he moved his face closer to his.
jeno already knew the tables had turned on him once jaemin uttered those eight words.
the closer jaemin got to him, the more he felt his stomach flood with butterflies. he could even hear the beating of his own heart and feel the burning up of his cheeks in the place where jaemin's hand occupied.
in that moment, it was just the two of them. everyone else around them didn't matter, because they were too distracted with each other.
jeno didn't know when it happened, but the next thing he knew, he felt the plush lips of na jaemin being placed at the corner of his mouth. right then and there, jeno knew it had to be a bit more than just a crush.
"i think chocolate may be my new favorite flavor."
