Earthquake.

The lights flickered as I felt the telltale signs of an earthquake in my bones. I stood up quickly. "Miss Luck, earthquake!" My teacher had a moment of recognition before everything went to hell. The ground below us began to shake. "Everyone out!" Miss luck grabbed the only two humans in my class and teleported out. The rest of us were left to our own instinct. I quickly fell to my knees and placed my hands on the floor to get a sense was what was happening. From what I could 'see' there were cracks all around the school and a hole beneath us that was out of my range. That wasn't there Friday. The ground shook again as the cracks widened and the whole school was about to fall into the ground. "Fuck!" I shifted quickly and I summoned all the gems around the area to hold the school. I was vaguely aware of miss Luck teleporting in and out with as many students as she could as I held the entire school with just rocks. Though I knew this was only temporary. The gems I had summoned were starting to crack and some even shattered completely. "Crystal come on!" I saw Miss Luck holding out her hand. "C̸̮̟̎ä̴̜n̷͚͇̐'̶̡͕̈́t̶̰͍̾͂!" She frowned until she saw what I was doing. At this point gems had complete incased my arms and left me stuck to the floor. "G̷͋ͅe̷͎̠̽̆ẗ̴̰̯ ̴͖́e̶̘͋͊v̴̯͍̿e̶̡͘r̸͈̉y̵̘͕͠ơ̴̜͙̄n̷̛̠̼͆ȇ̶͎̐ ̴̡͔̇ö̵̡̳͊u̴̞͛ṱ̷͒̊ ̷̛̩̪f̵͙̐̃i̵̳͘r̶̢̞͝s̷̤͔̽̚t̵͎͌!̸̳͌̇" Miss luck seemed to understand and turned around and looked for anyone else. There was screaming all around me as I tried to keep the school from falling. The unfortunate side effects of this form was enhanced hearing. There was still at least fourteen people left in the school. Not including me or Miss Luck. Sweat began to pour down my face as my magic was beginning to break away from me. "Fuck, Fuck, Fuck!" One of the larger gems shattered making the school shake and slide about a foot. 'Damn!'

As soon as my magic broke someone else's magic took over holding the school. I was pretty much forced out of my form, painfully. Miss Luck took no time in grabbing me and teleporting outside, somewhere safer. I blinked a bit as I looked up at the sun. Someone held my face and I saw my father and my brother. I couldn't hear them. I couldn't hear them! I started shaking uncontrollably as I held my ears. Someone tapped my shoulder and I saw Luke. He began to sign away. Talking about random things. I began to laugh a bit and hugged him.

I stayed like that for a bit until I blushed, heavily. We pushed each other away and I saw some of my family and friends on the floor laughing. I looked around and saw my mother in her crystalline form and holding on to the school far better than I had. I knew I had called out to her. I could feel it in my throat but I still couldn't hear. She looked over to me and smiled lightly. I could feel the ground slowly being reformed as my mother showed off a bit. It looked like she was glowing slightly. It looked like she was speaking but I still couldn't hear. My mother stood up and in a flash, she was back to normal. She coughed a bit into her hand before she spoke again. After a bit, she quickly ran over to me and lifted me up from the ground into a hug. I could feel her speaking but I still couldn't hear. She pulled away slightly and spoke again. Luke got her attention and began signing to her. She turned to someone behind her and quickly got out of the way. I saw the school nurse walking quickly over to me and started to examine my ears and eyes. She turned to speak to my mother and smiled. Must be good news. Mom thanked her and started rubbing my head. I looked over at Luke for an explanation. 'You will be fine. Just no magic. You and your mom hear things using our magic. No magic means mute.' Oh, ok. I signed a thank you and looked over at my school. It was slightly lower than it had been but it looked exactly the same from this morning.

I stayed there for a few hours. Just staring at the large building. I was kinda proud that I had managed to hold that entire building alone. Sure it depleted my magic but I was so proud! I felt a hand on my shoulder and saw my mother next to me. She moved her hands a bit before I recognized it as sign. 'Are you doing ok?' The movements were smooth and clear. Like she had been doing it for her entire life. I managed to sign back to her in less smooth motions. 'I'm fine. Just amazed.' She seemed to understand as she stood silently next to me. There was a faint noise that sounded like wind chimes. I looked over and saw where the sound came from. My mother's hair moved slowly as the wind picked up a bit. Making the windchime-like noise. I stared mesmerized as the crystals also shined rainbows on my mother's shoulders and necklace...Wait, not a necklace. A choker. I couldn't remember when I had seen her last worn her choker. Maybe, after she divorced my father? It was a gift from him after all. My mother had seen me staring and raised an eyebrow before lightly touching the choker, giving a bit of a sheepish smile. She quickly signed that she would explain later.

We stood there for a while before we went home in my mother's car. My mother seemed a bit anxious as she drove. My father and brother were talking about all sorts of things that I could bearly make out. My hearing had recovered a bit but not enough to actually understand speaking. Though, things like the blue crystals in my hair knocking into each other I could hear. I sighed as softly as I could while resting my head against the window. How long would it take to recover? It was so boring being in a mostly silent world. My mind wandered a bit to the hole beneath the school. It was almost a perfect circle. No way was that a natural earthquake.

Right?
