Tiga and I made our way to the kitchen. "So, do you think school will be out today?" I shrugged as I walked down the stairs. "No idea, though it would make sense if it was. After all. There is a giant hold under the school." We paused for as I thought about it for a second. "I wonder how they plan to fix that." Tiga grinned, flashing her canines. I shrugged as I walked into the Dining room. Our mothers were sitting at the table. "Hi, mom!" I ran over to my mother and hugged her. She gave me a slight smile as she sipped her coffee. "My gem, I love you but please don't shout in the morning." I laughed a bit while I rubbed the back of my head. "Sorry, mom." She hummed and nodded at me and took another sip of coffee. I sat down next to Tiga's mother, Catherine, and stretched my arms out until my bones popped. "So, what's for breakfast?" Tiga sat down next to her other mother. "We aren't completely sure. Proto and Quartz wanted to make breakfast." Stitch shrugged a bit as she held her son a bit awkwardly. "I hope he learned how to cook in the time we were apart." My mother sighed into her cup. Catherine burst out laughing and smirking. "I doubt it! He is almost as stubborn as you! Little miss Stone~" I could feel my mother's hard glare go over me and burned into my Aunt. "If you value your life. I suggest you run." My mother's tone was cold and malicious. Catherine gulped before shifting into a calico cat and quickly darting out of the room. Mom regained her imposition and smoothed down her hair. "Diamond, that wasn't very nice." Stitch frowned a bit as she chided the older woman. Said woman just shrugged and swallowed the rest of her coffee.
A few awkward minutes passed before my father and brother walked into the dining room with plates full of pancakes. "Aw, yes! Dad's the best." I shouted with glee as a particularly large pile of the cakes were placed in front of me. Little blue crystals were sprinkled on top. I quickly dug into the pancakes with a vigor. Ignoring my mother's mock pained look. "I thought I was the best!" The whole table burst out laughing at her exclamation. "He is the best... For now." I gave my mother a cheeky grin and she snorted. "Eat your food, Crystal." She nudged me and I went back to eating my food.
After breakfast, Tiga and I ran to the computer and logged into the school website. "If school is out what do we do?" Tiga asked while looking at me while the page loaded. "I don't know. Study?" She frowned and smacked my arm. "NO!" I chuckled a bit while I entered my inbox and clicked the newest email. "Dear, students. due to an earthquake, the ground below the school is unstable. Until this is fixed, school is canceled. please notify your parents or guardians." Tiga squealed and hopped up and down and darted off to who knows where. I laughed and turned off the computer. "Hey, Crytal?" I looked up and saw Stitch. "Ya?" She held out a bright blue phone. "I found this in the library. Also, we are going to leave to back to our own house tomorrow." She blushed a bit as she rubbed the back of her head. "We've been imposing on Diamond for a bit too long for my comfort." I smiled and hugged her. Stitch stiffened a bit before relaxing and hugging me back. "I'll miss seeing you. Even if you weren't here for very long." I pulled away from the hug and chuckled. "Though, I will be glad to have my own bed back." Stitch nodded and waved while walking away. "Don't be a stranger, Bluebell." I laughed at the nickname. "I won't!"
I walked outside and saw my mother getting ready to leave. "Hey, mom! Where are you going?" She looked up just as she touched the door. "Oh. I'm going to help fix the hole under the school." I jogged up to her and she smiled. "Wanna come with?" Her eyes sparkled with a knowing light. I nodded and ran over to the passenger side. "Remember to put your seat belt on!"
My mother hummed as she tapped the steering wheel. "So, what are you going to do while school is out." I looked over at her. "I was thinking I would explore the cave, ooor finish my homework." my mother gave an amused chuckle as she looked over me out of the corner of her eye. "You didn't do your homework." That was less a question and more a statement. "Oh, the calamity. How would you survive!" I pouted at my mother and smacked her arm playfully. "Oh come on! Monday was very eventful!" She just smiled as I turned to look out the window. The cars rushed past us or we passed them. Each car was a different color, model, or brand. Though, I did notice the same truck appear over and over again. "Mom?" She nodded as she turned left. "I see them." I watched for the truck as my mother kept turning and backtracking.
Before long I couldn't see them anymore and relaxed. "I think-" The whole car jerked as my mother slammed on the breaks. A truck zoomed past within an inch of the front of our vehicle before taring asphalt and disappearing to who knows where. My heart pounding as I gripped the dash. I hear something crack and I looked over to see my mother gripping the steering wheel. She was panting hard. "I really need a drink. what about you?" I raised a brow at her. "I'm 15." She snorted before laughing a bit. "I mean like soda or something. Not alcohol." I laughed with her before relaxing. "By the way, what cracked?" Mom held up her and showed me hairline fractures that spiderwebbed through her entire hand. "This is why you have to concentrate when crystallizing." I looked at the cracks as they slowly healed. "Are you ok?" She nodded and flexed her hand as much as it would allow. Which wasn't much, like it was made out of pure gems. My mother sighed before slowly driving to the nearest fast food place.
We sat on a bench with our drinks in our hands. "Do you want to talk about it." I looked over at my mother when she spoke. Her voice was monotoned as she stared directly ahead of her. "Something is bothering you." Her eyes seemed to glow faintly as the sun shined directly into them. Likely my eyes doing the same. "They were following us. They almost hit us." I rubbed my ear as I looked down at my drink. "And the hole. That wasn't a normal earthquake or a sinkhole that an earthquake might make." My rubbing turned to scratch as my mind raced. I heard my mother laugh a bit as she moved my hand. "Turn it down to about a two, little Gem." She gently stroked my hair. I calmed down a bit. "If they are connected, Smith will find it and alert me." I wrinkled my nose at my mother. "Jacquelin mother. Jacquelin." She ignored me as she sipped her drink. "Didn't we have to go to school?" My mother nearly choked on her soda and quickly jogged to our truck. A string of curse words falling out of her mouth as she went and drove away. "She forgot me."
This should be fun.
