Living in the middle of the forest had its many perks. Fresh air inside and out, tranquil noise, peace, trees as far as the eye could see, and adorable woodland creatures.
Masahiro loved everything about the land surrounding his small home.
Yeah, he knew it was normal for someone just out of college to live in a big city close to lots of jobs, stores, and cheap housing, but this is want Masahiro wanted and that made it the best place in the world. The drive to town wasn't actually that far seeing as it was only on the edge of the forest.
He grew a lot of his food right behind his house so he didn't go into town too often and he worked from home.
Today he wasn't going into town and didn't have any work, so he went to his 'secret' spot. The truth was though, it wasn't really a secret, just a smaller lake than the larger one. It was more hidden and only had one path to it unlike the larger lake much farther back in the forest. This one was almost always deserted save for the stray or lost traveler.
Masahiro packed up some sandwiches, strawberries, a bento lunch, and two thermoses of hot tea. He didn't know why he packed twice as much food as normal but he had a feeling that she'd spend a long time there today. Of course, he also brought his normal bag too. It had his notebook, pencils, first aid kit, his picnicking blanket, and some other random things he should probably get rid of.
He set off around noon but hadn't eaten breakfast so he knew he'd eat as soon as he got there. It was only a ten-minute walk.
He got there and sat not far from the beginning of the lake. His blanket beneath him and a sandwich with a few strawberries and tea were put beside him as he wrote sometimes in his notebook.
Everything was peaceful and it helped him conquer last night. There was a pretty bad storm the previous night and it still had him on edge. This changed his mood considerably. And the afternoon went smoothly for a couple of hours before he went a little closer to the water. He had planned on skipping rocks or maybe dipping his toes in a little.
What he was not expecting was seeing a man surrounded by red laying face down, half in and half out of the water.
Suddenly his calm afternoon took a sharp dive.
He ran closer to the water line and carefully looked at the body. It was a tall man with dark hair. He was soaking wet and the bottom half of his shirt was drenched in red. Masahiro tried to find the source of his blood flow and finally found it. There was a deep tear in the bottom left side of his stomach.
Masahiro ran back to his makeshift spot and packed everything up but the his thin blanket.
He went back to the unconscious man and ripped the cloth into a thinner and longer strip. He helped the man sit up, Masahiro didn't think he would weigh this much, and wrapped the cloth tightly around his stomach. It wasn't great, but this was the best he could do. He moved towards his bag so he placed his hand in between the man's shoulder blades to keep supporting him. Just as he reapplied pressure to that area, he almost got knocked out by two huge black wings. Masahiro went wide eyed. Wings? Black Wings? Only... only demons had black wings.
He quickly but his bag over his shoulder and then started to put the man's arm over the other. He shouldn't move him but the black wings were a bit of motivation. He didn't want anyone to see this ma- demon, and he didn't think doctors would want to treat him. He had to get him back to his house, that was his best shot at saving him.
When Kousuke woke up, he was in a whole hell of a whirlwind of pain. His head spun and he couldn't feel his mid section. He turned his head to the side and peered forward. He realized he was in a human's house, but it didn't have the same over bearing claustrophobic feeling other human buildings had. But, where was the human then?
He finally saw the human come into view from what he guessed was the kitchen. The human noticed he was awake and quickened his pace towards Kousuke. He wanted to back away and try to defend himself but he couldn't. The human placed down a bowl and dipped a rag in it. He ringed it out then folded it in half neatly and placed it on Kousuke's head.
"Can -ou -ear me? Are you -kay?"
"Who...? Where...?" His hearing started to clear up.
"You're at my house... my name is Masahiro." He spoke softly.
"What...?"
"I found you hurt by a small lake, and took you back here. I would have taken you to a hospital but I saw your wings..."
"My- my... wings?!" He tried to sit up but a burning pain shot through him. The huma- Masahiro laid him back down easily,
"It's okay, I know your kind doesn't like to be around too many humans at once, but you were really hurt and I- I have a good amount of medical training so don't worry..."
"Why...? You...?"
"Because I couldn't just let you be there in pain. Now, you have a slight fever, so please rest. Your safe here I promise."
Kousuke didn't really want to rest but he felt sleep over taking him and couldn't help but close his eyes and let darkness consume him once again.
Masahiro was going to change out the water but also doused his head in cold water too. He couldn't help but blush as memories flashed back of the demon's body as he had changed his wet clothes into dry ones and how cute he was when he woke up so confused.
"NO! NO! NO! Don't think that way about some who's hurt... Oh god, help me..."
He splashed his face and then dried off and filled his bowl halfway. He was walking back to where the demon rested surprisingly soundly. He felt his face heat up completely again.
"I am so screwed..."
