Masahiro knew it was one of those days again. One of the days where he thought that even just moving from bed was a task that was almost unaccomplishable. He could feel every good thought in his head be pushed back and locked away by a darkness that he felt too tired to fight. He could only faintly feel himself worry about how long this may last before he could only think of hurtful words he would only ever utter to himself about himself.
When Masahiro wasn't already downstairs before Kousuke, he thought nothing much of it and decided it was good for the kid to get more rest anyways. It was winter break after all, so there was no hurry. It was after he had heard three alarms go off in a row without him hearing Masahiro turn them off of get out of bed. He walked up the stairs to where the boy was sleeping in a spare room that had become his bedroom at the Ooshiba house over the years.
The first thing he saw when entering the room was that Masahiro was laying facing the ceiling with a blank look on his face. It started to click for Kousuke why Masahiro hadn't gotten out of bed yet and why none of the alarms had been shut off.
He quietly knocked on the door frame and Masahiro turned his head slightly to the door to see Kousuke standing there.
"Kousuke...?"
"Hey Masahiro, how are you feeling?"
"I'm just... very tired." Masahiro turned away from him onto his side. Kousuke moved over and sat on the edge of the bed.
"Whatever thoughts are running rampant in your head you can tell about. It won't be a burden on me to listen. Do you think it would be okay if I hugged you from behind?"
Masahiro only nodded. Kousuke sifted and moved to lay against his back. He wrapped his arms around Masahiro and made sure not to hold him too tight that Masahiro wouldn't feel constrained.
"is there are anything you'd like to talk about? Because whether its talking or just holding you or both, I will always be here for you to be reinforcement if your thoughts are leaving you on the edge." Kousuke spoke softly and Masahiro turned his body so that his face was buried in Kousuke's chest.
Kousuke knew that Masahiro had days where his mind would constantly pester him with depressive thoughts to the point where even the simplest of tasks would take everything out of him. It made Kousuke so sad to hear some of them the things Masahiro thought about himself, but he would always listen because he knew it was better to talk it out between them let Masahiro fight off the thoughts alone.
"I just have been thinking about school and everything that might happen. The future is so uncertain with the odds against us. Why can't we just be together without extra worry or caution. I feel like it's my fault that you can't even be certain about a peaceful future."
"Even if I'm not guaranteed a 'peaceful' future, I don't care about that. For one, you know I can never keep the peace for long without causing some trouble. And second, I choose to be with you everyday and everyday I'm happy. I know why may face troubles but we'll always face them together, even if the troubles come from within your own head." Kousuke kissed the part of Masahiro's forehead that was still visible.
"Do you really think that I'm worth all that?" Masahiro looked up and Kousuke met his eyes and held his gaze.
"I know you're worth all that."
Masahiro was able to bring himself to give Kousuke the best smile he could manage.
For the rest the day Kousuke helped Masahiro get dressed and eat at least two meals that day. Masahiro wasn't feeling back to normal until almost a week later and Kousuke sure the boy was feeling the best he could at any given moment. He tried doing crafts and activities with Masahiro no matter how weirdly his projects turned out, because it gave Masahiro something to chuckle about. He also encouraged Masahiro to go out and walk Shigeo.
Kousuke could see Masahiro slowly getting more and more energetic and back to himself.
He knew that this would happen from time to time. That even when Masahiro seemed at his best he could come crashing back down. But he'd always be there to catch him. And getting to give him extra comforting cuddles and kisses are always the best bonus.
