「jun」

"How about tacos?"

"No"

"Pizza?"

"No"

"..burritos?"

"That's a fat taco. No."

"Jun, are you gonna eat anything?"

I stop in my tracks when a sign catches my eye— or rather the worker behind it.

"Let's go get a sandwich."

"Wha— fine.." Mingyu whines as I grab his arm.

As we get closer to the stand, Mingyu gasps slightly and his head whip towards me.

"Hao..!" He whines. "You're gonna get us in trouble for no reason! He's super hostile— that's why half these people like him! He supposedly carries nun chucks with him at all times!"

"Dream on, Gyu."

"I'm gonna book. He freaks me out!"

"God you're so stunned."

Gyu just can't handle the fact, that he's basically asking for me to introduce myself to student Xu Minghao.

I stand now, hands in my pocket as I gaze at the menu. As if I'm even hungry for a sandwich, pssh.

Mingyu ordered with a quiet voice and Minghao nodded, taking his money and forming the sandwich.

I watch as he does this— his long, delicate fingers folding the receipt in half, his almond eyes watching his movements as if they weren't his own. He moves like in a trace, not exactly bored out of his mind but bored into his mind, where surely he's making movements true to his desires, thinking thoughts other than those of work and instead, living about in his head.

"Putz, are you gonna eat a sandwich or me with those eyes?"

I hear Mingyu chuckle behind me, god knows how long I stared off.

"Jeez, sorry Minghao. That's what your name be, right?" Chinese, like me." I throw in with our language, and he rolls his eyes.

"Racists sometimes are round these parts. Don't know if you wanna be speaking like that.

I look left then right. "Round where? I ain't ever encountered more than a few gobs of racists here in Maine." I reassure myself.

He eyed me up and down, pushing a lock of wavy hair away from his eye.

"You're not here for a sandwich are you?"

"Nah" I say, looking back at Mingyu who motions for me to scram. Instead, I begin to reach for my wallet in my back pocket.

"Well that's no good" Minghao mutters- he grabs my arm and heaves me to the back room, leaving me and a left behind Mingyu in shock.
