I really caught him.

Well, at least I'm pretty sure.

In the moment, I can't tell if I was numb or if I felt the most fear I ever have. Regardless, upon it I reacted quickly, and with a great weight Minghao landed in my arms, eyes closed.

I don't know why I said in the moment— it's still happening. I'm carrying him, walking away from the scene to the nurse while everyone watches in awe, stepping cautiously closer.

As I turned away I beheld a shocking compilation of faces— Mingyu, Seungcheol And Jihoon. They had not thrust themselves forward but stood furthest back, their eyes fixated on me.. only it felt they went instead right through me.

What are they looking at?

I don't even feel the weight of Minghao as I lay him on the bed of infirmary. I hadn't even known that I arrived— I merely was carried here as I looked at his face.

His hair was slightly longer, the back of his neck being speckled with the smallest sight of a mullet peaking through.

"Wǒ hěn xiǎngniàn nǐ."

It's a mere whisper as I sit myself in the chair next to him, signaling to the nurse outside the door that I had him situated before pinching my eyes closed.

By the time my eyes reopen there's only a small lamp illuminating the room— my heart stops as I see that Minghao sits up, eyes open with the lamp on the other side of him.

Our eyes lock momentarily, no words being exchanged as we look at the small changes that have occurred to our physique over the past four months.

"How—"

I can't even ask how he feels before he chokes out a sob. My heart almost immediately shatters, the combination of this and our distance pushing me off the edge.

"I was wrong. I'll be selfish. I don't care if you can be saved, I need you to save me. I can't live without you."

I don't wait for him to finish to jump on top of the bed, swinging my legs over his own and making sure there's not one more moment wasted where our lips aren't connected.

"Let's take this back to my house." He whispers, and I'm more than happy to comply.

When I wake up I'm haunted by an emptiness in the futon. The sun shines as it does on an average day, but today is no longer holding the promise of averageness. We've been reunited— I know we both feel another moment without the other would be unbearable. So this raises the question— where has he gone?

I stand from the bed, ignoring the stifling pain in my arse. I walk to the kitchen, beholding all of the counters for a sign of my lover being here.

Out the window, I almost feel called to scan for a sign. Stepping closer to the glass, I see the flag of my mailbox is raised— I might as well retrieve it to avoid further distraction.

I walk out to it, pulling the door which reveals only a letter as thin as tendons.

Opening it came instinctually when I saw my name addressed on it- but the information inside was enough to stop my heart.

"I'm doing you a favor."

I drop the paper, no other movement than the uncurling of my fingers.

And once I map out in my head where I'm going, I take of running.
