Iris purchased a ticket for the next flight to New York as soon as possible. She knew where Joe's family lived. She'd talked to them before and met them a few times. The plane ride to New York was tiring but all she wanted to do was hug joe and apologize for anything she had done to offend him.
A cab parked in front of Joe's family's house and out came iris. She paid the cab driver and went to knock on the door. After three knocks, Joe's mom, Virginia, came out with a smile on her face.
"Oh god, it's so lovely to see your beautiful face again!" Virgina smiled and brought iris into hug. "Come in, you must be so tired from flying to different places."
Iris raised an eyebrow. "What do you mean by different places?"
"Joe told me that you had to travel to god knows where to take photos. That's why you weren't here when he arrived yesterday." Virgina said as she closed the door.
"Right. I'm a pretty busy woman now.." iris whispered. "Where is joe?, I have to talk to him about mandy and some other stuff.."
"Joe went out for food. I think he'll be back in a couple of minutes-"
Just as Virginia finished talking, the front door opened and joe appeared with containers of food in his hands. "Hey, ma! Food is here, let's it before it gets cold!" He called out as he set the good on the table still not noticing iris, but once he did, he froze.
"Iris..." joe slowly said, not believing that the girl that has been on his mind for the past twenty four hours was standing in front of him. "You're here."
Iris nodded. "Yeah. I am. You sound surprised."
Virginia noticed the sudden mood change and announced that she was going to the kitchen to eat.
"I'm not. I know you'd be here at some point." Joe put his hands in his pockets. "Gwil told you?"
"He did. Told me that you were home. He also told me that we needed to talk."
Joe had told gwil about the conversation iris had with Madison about marriage. He poured out his feelings to his friend as he ate his chocolate donut. ( ha me this morning )
"Fine. I'm just gonna be straightforward and say that I heard the conversation you had with madison about you not wanting to marry me. I heard everything, iris. And it broke my heart." He said in a serious voice and left the living room.
She stood frozen. Joe walked past her without saying anything. Iris didn't even bother to look back.
