( hi I'm listening to 'crying' by roy orbison, hence the title of this chapter, and I'm sorry for putting my girl iris through this )
Her hands wiped away the tears that were streaming down her face. She sat on the steps in front of a random coffee shop that was closed. The night sky illuminated her sad face as cars drove by. Iris didn't even know where to go at that point. She didn't have a car, a place to stay or even much money. All she did was buy the plane ticket to New York to find joe.
Iris wanted to go home, but she wanted go fix the problem. She wanted to go home with joe. She was determined to leave with him, but she had no idea on how she was planning on doing that. Her eyes landed on her left hand. There once rested a beautiful rose gold ring for about a year. A past relationship that only her mom, zach and esme knew about that ended in her taking it off and leaving.
It was never brought up in conversations about their future, but if it was, iris would do her best at dodging it as much as she could. The horrible memories still there unfortunately. Zach and esme helped with trying to get rid of them, but no matter what they did, it didn't last long.
Laura grew concerned about her daughter's well being. The fall of the relationship resulted in iris being more of an indoors person. The fun, giggly iris left while the sad, antisocial iris made her presence known.
But that was years ago, although iris remembers every second of it.
"You'll find love again." Laura comforted iris one day after work.
"That's not what I'm sad about." Iris responded, burning her face further into her tear stained pillow.
"Then what is it, honey?"
"How could I have missed it? It all made sense! He didn't trust me around his phone. Always making up stupid excuses!" Iris yelled which made Laura flinch back.
"I'm so stupid!"
That was the night that iris sold the ring and gave half the money to an old homeless lady that she had helped before. The rest was given to her mom to help with bills.
She also swore that night that she would never fall in love so easily. But that quickly backfired when she got drunk and a certain brown haired man found her.
