Heart and Blood - Chapter 10

I knocked on the door and waited for it to open or to get a response.

"Come in."

I opened the door and entered to see Reiji tinkering. "This is unexpected. What may you be doing here?" he asked, continuing to work.

"I wanted to ask you some things, if you aren't too busy," I said, closing the door behind me.

"I'll make an exception for you. Sit down," he said, gesturing to a seat. I walked and sat down on the seat. "Now what is it?"

"I was wondering if you could help me figure out my past. I'm not expecting you to know everything, but there are some things that I think you could know," I told him.

"Like?" he asked, looking at me expectantly and curiously.

"Do you know a woman named Beatrix?" I asked.

He stopped what he was doing and looked at me. "How do you know that name?" he questioned.

"Yesterday, I met a guy at school named Kou Mukami," I explained. "He told me that my adoptive mother was a woman named Beatrix."

A few moments passed by of him just observing me.

I squirmed in my spot at his gaze. It was a slightly awkward due to the distant and quiet silence.

"You can't possibly be her," he said after a few moments.

I looked to the side a bit frustrated. Who was 'her' and how could I never be her? "Reiji I don't know who this 'her' is, but can you please tell me who Beatrix is?" I asked again but more demanding, unintentionally, of course.

"I don't know why you were even with that half blood," he said, pushing up his glasses. "But if you insist to know, Beatrix was mine and that deadbeat's mother," he said, finally.

I looked at him wide eyed. I thought about it for a few moments, questioning as to how I could be the adoptive daughter of their mother. That made no sense to me. "It doesn't really connect with me. I grew up with my mother and father. We were all blood related. They never gave me up for adoption and I've never heard of that woman," I said confused and thoughtfully.

"It seems that the half blood lied to you," he said.

I sighed and looked up at him. "I guess. I also have another question," I started again. I waited for him to deny but he only nodded. "Why is Yui here?"

He walked over to the seat in front of me and sat down. "Yui was sent to us as a sacrificial bride. She has been with us for about 3 months. If I'm being completely honest she's caused a lot of trouble since she arrived," he explained.

"What kind of trouble?" I said, laughing a bit at the thought of Yui being a troublemaker. Reiji looked at me with a pointed expression and I put a straight face on.

"She had the heart of the triplets' mother in her. It caused a commotion with our uncle Richter," he explained.

"Do you all have different mothers but the same father? You're all brothers, aren't you?" I asked unsure.

"Yes, me and that deadbeat have the same mother. The triplets; Ayato, Laito and Kanato, all had the same mother and Subaru had yet, another mother," he replied.

"Alright," I said, taking in the information. "Did Yui always act the way she does now?" I asked.

Reiji pulled up his glasses. "Yui always seemed timid and naive. Does she act any differently now?" he asked.

I raised brow. "She was once timid?" I asked, surprised at the sudden information. "She acts all self-righteous. She wants to marry Shu for his title, apparently," I exclaimed.

"Hearing his name still irritates me," he said pointedly.

"Sorry," I said a bit quietly.

"You said she wanted to marry him? That seems a bit odd," Reiji said thoughtfully.

I shifted in my seat. "How so?" I asked more curious now.

"Her and Ayato always seemed to stay together. We all fought for her blood at some point or another. Ayato being the possessive one of us, always kept her at his side."

I nodded at his statement in thought. "Does she just act that way around me?" I asked myself mainly. I looked at Reiji with a small smile. "Thanks for the help Reiji. I really appreciate it," I said, standing.

"While you're here. I would like to see those pills you had taken a couple weeks back," he said.
