•Chapter Eight •Movie Night•

We get to Jack's house and he leads me into his living room. I pretend not to notice that no one else is home.

"So yeah just make yourself at home! I'm gonna make us some popcorn." Jack smiles at me before walking back upstairs.

I sit down and start thinking. Okay, so this is a date. But it's not a date... Jack is pretending to like me for some stupid bet and I am pretending to like him so I can get even with him and not get hurt. So, this is a fake date. A totally and completely fake date. Since when did my life become so messed up?!

Just then, Jack comes back in and sits down next to me with a bowl of popcorn. "Alright, lets get started!"

I nod and he starts the movie. To be honest, I love movies like this and I wish I could actually watch it. Unfortunately, I'm too focused on how I'm gonna deal with Mr. Player over there to see the couple fall in love or how it starts to take a turn for the worst.

Jack sits back and relaxes more into the couch. Naturally, I relax a little more too. We get into the movie and popcorn, and I almost actually forget about him.

"So do you like this movie?" He asks, looking away from the screen and at me for the thousandth time tonight.

"Yeah, it's one of my favorites!" I say, grabbing another handful of popcorn.

"Oh good, I was kind of worried that you would think it's stupid." He continues to look at me but I turn my attention back to the movie.

"Nope, I love it."

I see him smile out of the corner of my eye and look back at the screen. He shifts a little bit closer to me, and slowly puts his arm around me- being subtle as if I wasn't supposed to notice. Smooth, Jack, smooth. Like no one saw that coming.

"...um, what are you doing?" I look over at him and raise an eyebrow.

"Putting my arm around you." He says confidently.

"...why?" I speak slowly.

"No reason." Jack smiles and looks back at the movie. Ugh, he is so annoying!

"Well, you can take it off me now."

"Oh sorry do you have a problem with it?" He doesn't move at all. Ah, should I just go with it?! Or should I tell him to stop?! Ignore him?! Or storm out?!

I take a quick deep breath, deciding the best way to play this. "Yes... We're just friends and I don't want to get the wrong idea." I say, playing the hard-to-get/friend zone strategy slightly. I wish I had as much practice as he did, but I honestly don't know what I'm doing.

"But it's not like I'm doing it romantically. It's friendly!" Ugh maybe he should just stop. He doesn't realize how hard this actually is for me.

I sigh and turn back to the movie, just ignoring the feel of his arm around me. If I was being perfectly honest, it felt nice. He keeps looking at me, but I ignore him; I don't want to have to do this any more than I have to. After a while, the movie ends and goes to the credits. Jack finally takes his arm off me and stretches a little bit. I relax my shoulders and take a deep breath.

"Well that was fun!" He says.

"Yeah, thank you. I had a really good time tonight." I stand up to leave.

"We should do it again sometime!" Jack flips on the light and leads me upstairs.

I was hoping he wouldn't say that. "Yeah definitely!"

He drives me home, and we carry on one of our usual conversations, acting like we're both actually into each other.

"Okay, well see you tomorrow!" He says as we get to my house. I'm glad he didn't walk me to the door, that would've been awkward.

"Well, actually tomorrows a Saturday, but I'll see you on Monday!" I wave and rush out the door. I head home, finally free. Once I get home, I change into pajamas and do a little bit of homework. Thankfully, Anna is hanging out with Rapunzel and Merida tonight so I won't have her pestering me about the date. Or the not-date. Fake date? Whatever.
