Chapter 17
Tom comes back, after he cools off, to get me out of the room. He leaves me with a trusted guard who points me in the direction of a shower. The bathroom is large and tiled blue and white. A large hot tub smiles at me. I shut the door partially behind me. The guard waits at the far end of the hallway.
Sighing happily, I relax in the warm water. I turn on the bubbles and the water swirls gracefully around me, relaxing my aching muscles. Even though so many rough things happen and my body receives so many bruises, the water still seems to suck the problems away. I close my eyes and reopen them to find Jason standing over me.
I jump when I see him. "What the hell are you doing here?" I ask as I frantically gather bubbles around myself.
"Rescuing you, of course," Jason answers. "Now get out of there so we can go."
"How did you get in?"
"We killed a few guards. We don't have much time before they realize something is wrong. Now let's go!" he urges.
"No! No, you can't be here! If you're here, he's going to kill me, just like he did to the other girls."
Jason shushes me. "No he won't. Not if we get going right now. Lilly, please realize how tight of window we have to get out of here."
"Hand me a towel and give me a minute alone."
Jason instantly hands me a towel and leaves the room. I quickly dry off and change into the clothes Tom had gotten me. I wrap myself in the blue camouflage robe, which was hanging behind the door, for warmth. I step out of the bathroom and discover that Christopher and Caspian have accompanied him on the rescue. I climb onto Jason's back and we take off. They seem to know their way around pretty well. Caspian and Christopher scout twenty yards ahead of us. Unexpectedly, guards grab them. Jason nearly stops to help them, but Christopher urges, "Go, go, go!"
He turns around and picks up speed again, but we don't get too far. Guards swarm around us and Jason doesn't try to get past them. There are too many guards and not enough capable fighters. I can see Jason assessing the situation with eagle eyes, searching for a way out. Seeing no safe way out, he slides me off his back and shields me. The guards close in on us and Jason wraps his arms around me, protectively. The tight circle opens momentarily to allow Caspian and Christopher to be shoved in with us.
Caspian, trying to keep things from getting violent, says, "Stop, friends. We will go with you. Do not harm us. We only came for Lilly. Take us to Tom and I'm sure we can work something out."
Peter Whitson gives some sort of signal that I miss and the posse of twenty guards dwindles down to five. "I'm surprised that you still try and rescue them, Jason," Peter says, as we walk. The remaining five guards circle us loosely and lead us through the hallways to the Throne Room. "By now, I think it would be clear that my intuition is very good. So good, in face, that I know you will come every time."
"That's not intuition," Jason snorts, "that's logic."
When we enter the Throne Room, only one thing is different from before: only two thrones are not occupied.
Tom and Raquel are in their thrones. Tom lazily toys with a deck of cards. There is one male and two female vampires I don't recognize. One female appears to be in her mid-twenties. She's tall, slim and has medium length blond hair. She's dressed up in a lavender sleeveless dress. The other female appears to be around twenty years old. She's shorter in height than the others and her brunette hair has one purple streak. She's wearing a red sleeveless dress. The man has very tan skin and short, spiked brown hair. He's in a dark navy blue suit.
