I twisted the emerald encrusted gold ring around my finger.
"Is this a joke?" Nadia pursed her lips.
Can I get an "AWKWARD"?
Awkward.
"Seriously, when were you gonna tell me about this,?" She bit her lips, it almost looked like she would burst into tears at any moment.
"Nadi, I'm so so sorry, I just didn't know how to break the news to you," I looked into her eyes, she broke the stare.
Wow she's mad.
"So, you just decided to tell me one day before you fly halfway across the world, your best friend, Jameela I'm your best friend, who your about to ditch, Jameela, I just....I can't, why wouldn't you tell me, why?" She practically sobbed.
I hesitated, I could never lie to Nadia I mean she was my best friend but, if I told her the truth then it would ruin the suprise.
"Look, you'll understand, just please let's enjoy our...uuh, I mean my last day in Bradford okay?"
She jutted her chin out then nodded stiffly.
Phew, that was close.
"Excuse me for a minute, "
She hopped of my bed and slammed my bedroom door shut after her.
I guess she's stil mad.
I looked in the mirror. My hijab was flung around my neck, my long jet black hair tumbled down to my waste, complementing my piercing jade green eyes and light creamy skin.
You can say being 14 has its perks
I guess I wasn't ugly, but I wasn't a patch on Nadia. She had honey streaked, brunette hair that was dead straight and fell just above her hips, she was curvy and had coffee coloured skin and almond shaped, chocolate brown eyes.
My siblings lookes exactly like me, my brother Ahmad, baby sis Alana, and of course my role model, older sister Maria.
"Your mum said dinners ready," Nadia said softly, her eyes were slightly pink, as though she had been crying.
Well duh. She probably was, if she was gonna leave me to emigrate halfway across the world I would be too. But of course there's a slight twist in the plan, I guess she'd just hae to find out later, I thought with a grin.
"Ahmad sit down, no Alana, MARIA, get her fingers out of the socket, *cant you do it?* NO I CAN VERY WELL NOT I HAVE WATER ON MY HANDS, bloody fool, Ahmad, get of the fridge, what, no I don't care, Nadia there's no cookies in the cupboard, oh Jameela dear please my head is going to explode," My mum rubbed her temples, placing a hot steamy bowl of curey on the table.
"Gotcha Ammi,"
I yanked Alana's hand out of the socket, gave Nadia a few hugs, slapped Maria a couple of times, and whacked Ahmad with the brush over the head, and finally, we were all sitting at the dining table.
"Wheres Abba?"
"Working late, he's been doing a couple of extra shifts, so we can save up, those tickets were very expensive," Ammi sighed. "How about you Nadia, have they...made it official?"
"They signed the divorce papers early today, I just don't know who to live with, Amma or Abba," Nadia slumped back into her chair. "And now Jameela leaving me to,"
She glared at me and I morphed my face into a fake guilty look, whilst Ammi shook with silent laughter.
"Sorry Nadi,"
She shot me a dirty look and cleared her throat. "I'm taking a nap,"
____________
Fourteen hours later I stood twirling my ring round and round my finger.
"Oh my god Jameela," Nadia wept hugging me tight. "I'll probably commit suicide,"
My mum beamed at me.
I grinned back.
And I know what your thinking "Wow, Jameela is one female dog," but your wrong.
I pushed Nadia of my chest and smiled. "Well, go and get your suitcase,"
She stopped crying and sniffed. "What?"
"Oh did I forget to mention it, your coming with us,"
Her eyes widened. "No I'm not,"
"Yes you are,"
"No I'm not," but this time a smile crept onto her face.
"Ahmad put Nadi's suitcase in the car,"
"OH MY GOD JAMEELA I LOVE YOU SO MUCH!" Nadia screamed.
She crushed my ribs and planted a hard kiss on my cheek.
"Jameela, I just....THIS IS GONNA BE FRIGIN EPIC!"
I laughed and slapped her on the back. Giggling slightly we all squashed into the seven seater.
This is gonna be one hell of a ride.
