3rd Person POV:
"What?!" "Yeah, sorry about that." "Is the main male character alright with it?" "He said he's bisexual, so it doesn't matter." Matt had just been told that he was going be have the main woman's role in the school's play. Maybe it wasn't a terrible idea, but Matt was still unsure about the whole issue.
"I-isn't there a kiss scene though?" The director of the play looked around at the backstage crew, who all looked at each other. "W-well... you don't have to do it if you don't want to. You can just kiss him on the cheek or on his forehead or something." Matt nodded, blushing at the thought of kissing another boy. Matt was straight, but he's been feeling things for guys lately. Maybe he's bisexual too?
"Can I... talk to him?" Matt asked, deciding that he'd rather discuss this with the one he'd have to kiss. He didn't want to make it awkward, so he wanted to let the other guy know who he was. "...Sure. Hang on." The director left the room, going off to find the main male character.
'Why did I even sign up and audition to be in this play?' Matt thought to himself, looking down at the floor.
He knew he was handsome and irresistible, but it felt odd when he had to flirt with a guy. The play is all about romance, so he questioned why the school would let this slide. After a long time, the director came back with a shorter teen. Matt found a liking for the boy's devil-horned hair. "We'll leave you two alone for a bit." The director said, joining the backstage crew. They left the room, probably going to get the play ready.
"S-so... what's your name?" Matt asked, breaking the ice. "I'm Tord. What's yours?" "I'm Matt! It's nice to meet you." "Same to you." The pair went silent, a bit awkward around each other. 'I'm going to kiss this guy? He's... kinda cute... not as cute as me, but he'll do just fine.'
"I... feel a bit shy. I'm just gonna kiss you on your cheek." Matt admitted, his cheeks turning a red hue. "You don't have to do it if you don't want to. We can just hug or something..." Tord replied, rubbing his arm and looking down at the floor. "No, it's alright. A kiss on the cheek won't be that bad." Matt responded, smiling. Tord looked up at him, his face turning red. "O-okay..." Tord muttered.
After they chatted for a while longer, the two left the room and went their seperate ways. Tord left the school while Matt told the director about their decision. "That's great! So, you're in?" "Yeah... I'll do it. This might help me figure my sexuality out better, too."
Matt's parents took him home, and he didn't want to tell them about the play. So, low and behold, he didn't tell them. He went into his bedroom, shutting and locking the door behind himself.
"Phew..."
He set his backpack down, getting his phone and his earbuds out. He popped his earbuds in and plugged them into his phone, putting a calming song on. He really just needed alone time right now, and maybe some food. He searched through his backpack for a snack, luckily finding some vanilla wafers. He sat on his bed and ate the creamy wafers as he listened to music. After finishing all of the wafers, he laid down onto the bed.
He still felt... anxiety? Well, all teenagers do. It's basically a personality trait at this point. But... he didn't know if he liked Tord or not. Isn't he straight? What about when he was dating girls during middle school and a few during this year of high school? Wow, he sounds like such a player. And now, he doesn't even know what gender he's into.
Matt was thinking so hard that he got a headache, and he turned his music up to get rid of the remaining thoughts. He'll deal with it all later. He closed his eyes and felt himself drifting off, the music still playing. He turned the music down a bit and fell asleep.- Time Skip -
It was the moment he'd been waiting for. The day of the play. Matt had his costume and makeup on, all set and ready. The backstage crew and director were getting the stage ready, people gathering on the other side of the large red curtain on the stage. Matt peeked through, seeing his parents in a spot further back into the swarm of people. He looked over the script again, remembering every word of it. He studied it all week, after all.
Since he had spare time, he noticed Tord standing around. He went over to Tord to talk. "Heya, Tord! Ready for the play?" "Yeah, I've been reading and practicing with the script all week. How about you?" "I'm all ready! Look, I get to wear a dress!" Matt twirled around in his dark red cocktail dress, enjoying how well it fit him. Tord's cheeks were dusted with a bright red blush. "Heh, look at that." He said. Matt put his hands on his hips, grinning.
"You look like a rose with that dress on." Tord commented, attempting at a flirt. Matt giggled. "What's that supposed to mean?" "U-uh, I meant that you look nice..." Matt's face reddened. "Th-thanks! I already know that, but that was very nice of you." Tord cocked a brow and Matt giggled again.
The pair jumped when the director announced, "Alright, Tord and Matt, you're due in 5!" Matt and Tord hurriedly looked over their scripts, making sure that they'd remember everything. They mumbled their lines to themselves and each other, having a quick few minutes of practice.
Then, they went out on stage. Tord had to go onto the stage first, saying a few lines. Then, Matt came onto the stage. His parents were more than shocked when they saw him in a dress, probably because Matt never told them. He just said, 'I'm in a play, you should come!'
He said his lines, finding that he was very good at acting. Tord was good too, and it showed that he obviously practiced a lot beforehand. Everything seemed to go just as planned, the backstage crew providing a few extra effects. Matt was a bit shy when other characters in the play communicated with him, but he kept it hidden behind a large smile.
Soon enough, it was time for the kiss scene. Matt and Tord didn't make it a big deal, and Matt just pecked the other on the cheek. They both blushed and continued with their parts in the play until it ended.
Matt and Tord went backstage to change out of their clothes, and Matt messaged his parents. He wanted to hang out with Tord for a while longer, even if it could only be an hour or two. Matt found Tord, who was about to leave. "Wait up!" Tord stopped and turned around, seeing Matt in his more casual clothes.
"Oh, hi Matt." "Hiya! Uhm... I just wanted to... y'know... can we hang out a bit sometime?" Tord thought about it for a bit and shrugged, nodding. "I was just about to walk home, but my parents probably don't care. Wanna get a pizza?" "You bet!" Matt wondered why Tord's parents weren't here to see him perform, but he didn't comment.
They left the school, walking to the nearest pizzeria. While walking, Matt decided to ask about Tord's parents. "...Tord, why weren't your parents there to see you?" Tord tripped on a crack in the sidewalk, but he stayed standing. "I'll... tell you that some other time..." Matt nodded. "There's no rush. I understand." Tord smiled nervously. "Thanks..."
The two entered the pizzeria and ordered a large pepperoni pizza. Tord was going to pay for it, but Matt didn't let him. Matt paid for it and they sat down at a random table to wait for it. "Wanna eat it here, or do you wanna come to my place?" Matt inquired. "I don't know your parents yet... l-let's just eat here." Tord responded.
It was a fun day (and night), eating pizza, taking selfies with each other, spray painting the walls of a few places, smoking cigarettes, good times. Tord fist bumped Matt when they got to Matt's house, and Matt hugged him. "I'll see you later. Don't forget to check your phone!" "See ya. And, I'll make sure to text you."
Matt let go of Tord and went inside, Tord walking away. He glanced back at the house and sighed, walking home. Matt knew he'd have a lot of explaining to do with his parents, but he wasn't worried about it. They'd understand, right?
