I woke suddenly to a shout, or maybe a cry, of pain.

"James!" I screamed.

"Shhh. Stay quiet so you won't be attacked." James said.

"Aahh" James yelled out in pain.

I looked out the crack in the tent's opening and saw that James was pinned by a large man that kinda looked like... Henry!

"Henry? Henry, is that you?" I asked.

"Sarah, you slept with this... this thing?" Henry asked.

"That thing is my boyfriend first of all, second of all, his name is James, and last of all, it's none of your business who I sleep with and who I don't anymore, I broke up with you two years ago. Get over yourself and move on." I said.

"Well, if I can't have you, then no one can!" Henry screamed.

"Hey, pal, time for you to have a nap and a breath mint, that breath kills people, ugh." James said. The next thing I saw was so strange, I don't think I'll ever forget it. James threw his hands out in front of him and brilliant, white light burst from them and Henry fell over into a steaming mass of burnt and bloody rags.

"Why didn't you tell me you could do that? It's not like I would make fun of you for it." I said.

"I know you wouldn't I was actually trying to use a force spell from our book you know the one that was sent to us and that we studied from." James said.

"Then how did you do that?" I asked.

"It must've been one of those abilities that that friend of ours was talking about." James said.

"I guess, that could have just been a spell gone wrong, too, though." I said.

"Hey, you two!" Someone yelled from up above, "You guys can't practice magic outside the institute without licenses." she said.

"What's the institute?" James asked.

"You don't know? It's where all new magic users learn how to use their powers. You guys really don't know what it is?" she asked.

"No, sorry we are brand new to this stuff. Our parents are dead, so we never really got to learn from our parents." I said.

"Ok, well then, I'm Rachel and I'm one of the scouts for the institute." Rachel explained, "Hey, I'm sorry but you have to come with me, to the institute for breaking the rules of magic. It's part of my job and if I don't, I'll be fired, and by fired, I mean killed."

"Well, ok, but you know we're fine with this, we don't exactly know how to use our abilities, for example he just tried using a force spell and ended up crisping that guy over there with a light spell." I said.

"What light spell, there isn't a light spell, if you mean shooting light out of his hands that's not magic and you guys can go free." Rachel said. "Wait. Do you think you can still take us to the institute?" James asked.

"No, sorry, but I can tell you that it is in New York. When you get there a magician will find you and take you there." Rachel said.

"Ok, thanks." I said.

Once Rachel left, I got on blaze and James pulled out his wings and we took off. We weren't very far from the city but when we got there, James needed to rest so I called a cab and went to a Skyline Hotel. We checked in but he said the room was on them, man was that a relief considering we had no money. That night as we fell asleep I heard something and then all was dark.
