Monday morning, Hana sat on the bus for her short commute to work. For some reason, she felt more nervous now than she did right before her actual interview. She began to question herself, wondering if Mr. Kim had given her the job solely because she was nice, not because she was actually qualified for the position.
He did say, however, that he had looked at the work she'd done, which slightly put her nerves at ease. She also hated being the new girl; whether it was school or work, she didn't like not knowing anybody. That being said, she was extremely eager to get introductions out of the way, and hopefully make friends with some of her new co-workers. Maybe they'd like her, and she'd have nothing at all to worry about.
There was only one way to find out.
Once again, she arrived at the company building with much time to spare, and checked in with reception to begin in-processing into her new job. First, an employee badge was made for Hana, which she proudly hung from her neck as soon as it was handed to her using the supplied lanyard which had the company logo repetitively printed onto it.
Next, she was given a quick tour of the building; the secretary reminded Hana of where Mr. Kim's office was. He was the CEO of the company, having started it on his own after being rejected by other companies. They've had many struggles, but lately, the company has only seen growth. Hana couldn't help but feel proud of the man she'd met a couple of days ago, and proud to be a part of a company like this.
On the way to the different departments, they stopped at the Beta Game Testing Clinic; volunteers would come test out games and give feedback on what they liked and what they thought could be improved. Employees were allowed to come here on their own free time.
There were quite a few departments in the company; Financial, Human Resources, Business, Communication, etc. Hana didn't necessarily care about any of those, however, only interested in the department she would be working in; Game Development. "The black mark on your badge annotates the department you're a part of. You'll be working on the Design Team as a Graphics Developer, which is why there is a gold frame around your photo."
Looking down, Hana examined the badge for the first time, looking at the marks the secretary was talking about. "Mr. Kim values all of his employees, but gives special consideration to the developers. I'm not sure what experience you have elsewhere, but you'll find that you'll be treated especially well here."
How did Hana get so lucky with her first job?
"Why is that? Is it because of Mr. Kim's experience?" Hana asked, recalling the story of the company's origins.
"Yes. Besides being constantly rejected, he was also treated poorly, and found from other employees that they never received respect from prior employers. Here, he emphasizes the importance of your role in the company, which is why so many people here love him," as the girl talked about him, Hana thought you'd have to be crazy not to notice just how this girl talked about him, like he ruled her entire world.
