And now without further ado, I present you with Chapter sixteen...

Chapter 16, Encounters

"Yeah," I say over the phone to dad, "on the back road no body ever takes where's there's no traffic, lots of shady people, and out past that old long ago abandoned super market."

"The one near the that old torn down barn with the old red ford parked with the rebel flag hanging off the window and beer bottles on the hood?" He asks, voice stern.

He wasn't too happy about the fact that we were stranded on one of the most dangerous back roads.

Well actually, it wasn't that it was dangerous per say, just that a lot of drunks and druggies liked to hang out around here.

"Yeah, that one, we're about a mile and half past the old chapel."

"Alright, I'm on my way, hang tight and be careful. Also make sure to tell the kid that me and him are going to have a talk!"

I roll my eyes, "Dad," I say in a warning tone.

He sighs, "I'll be nice, I promise, but he's not getting out of this one Jacklyn." Dad's voice is serious and I know I can't stop him from having a talk with Ethan.

"Alright then, I'll see you in a bit then." I say and hang up.

Turning to Ethan I see him pacing back and fourth.

"Yo Waters!" I shout causing him to turn and face me, "my dad's on his way now. He said to tell you that he's going to be giving you a  stern talking to."

Ethan runs his hands through his hair with a frustrated sigh, "of course! Just freaking great!"

"Chill out!" I shout, "it's not that bad."

"But your dad probably hates me now!"

"He's not happy, but he he doesn't hate you, and besides, my mom still likes you."

"Damn it, I should have just went back the way we came!"

"Yeah probably, but it wouldn't have changed the outcome and we'd still be broken down on the side of the road, except with the possible chance of getting hit by a car since instead of a back road with no traffic we'd be on the highway." Then thinking about it I add, "but none of this would have happened if we'd just took my truck instead."

"Alright I get it! Next time we'll take your damn car!"

"Truck," I correct leaning against the hood of this crap rental.

"Whatever!"

"Why are you being so snippy? You're the one who rented the shit car in the first place!" I raise my voice slightly.

Ethan marches quickly up to me, a frown on his face, "because I wanted this night to go perfectly, but I went and screwed it up!"

I look at him, eyebrows raised, "and since when has anything ever went perfectly for anybody? Perfection is an outright lie, shit happens, life sucks. We just have to get past it and get over it!" He meets my eyes and suddenly it's like the world stops turning, and everything around us is no longer important.

This time it's me who pulls him in for a kiss as his hands go around my waist, our mouths moving in sync with each others.

"Well what do we ave' ere' a couple love birds making out?" A deep voice slurs.
