Loki groans in pain, trying to drag his broken body up Tony Stark’s steps. Why does everything hurt so much? He can feel his wounds healing with his supernatural godly powers, but the Hulk had smashed him into the ground so hard, that his body made Loki-like craters. No mortal would be able to survive that.
I am no mortal, Loki thinks to himself, though his bruised face and weak arms wasn’t doing a very good job of keeping up his godly façade.
Loki finally succeeds in dragging himself unto the steps, but then he hears the broken glass on the floor shift behind him.
He slowly turns around. There’s his brother, Thor, glaring down on him with unearthly anger. And his scepter in the mueling quim’s dirty hands. The hulk is there as well, along with Tony Stark, Captain America, and Agent Barten. They all look down on him with anger and most of all, triumph and relief.
Loki wants to grab the scepter from the red head’s hands and blast them all to Hel. But there’s nothing he can do now, and he knows it. Shifting his aching body, he peers up at them with a mischievous twinkle in his green eyes.
“If it’s all the same to you,” he grins, “I’ll have that drink now…”
Stark isn’t amused. “Alright, get him on his feet. We can all stand around posing up a storm later.”
With that, Stark walks away, remarking, “By the way, feel free to clean up!”
Thor reaches down and grasps Loki’s arm. Loki looks up at his childhood friend and companion. Thor grimaces and with one easy tug, Loki is brought to his feet. The Avengers are too far away to see, but Thor notices Loki sway and blink away stars from his vision. A shadow of concern crosses Thor’s face, but the god of thunder wipes it away before Loki could see.
“Who gets the magic wand?” Agent Romanoff asks, and Loki’s eyes slide to his right, glaring eagerly at his stolen weapon. He looks back at Thor.
“Don’t let them have me,” he mutters. His split lip throbs as he talks, but he has to make sure he doesn’t end up on Death row on this pathetic planet. If he is to die, he wants to do it on Asgard.
Thor looks down at his little brother. “You deserve anything you get,” he growls, but he squeezes Loki’s arm, slightly reassuringly. Then he pulls something out from his belt and Loki feels something around his wrists. He looks down at the Asgardian cuffs and sighs, rolling his eyes.
“Really, brother,” he snarks, “the way you treat me, you’d think I was a criminal or something.”
Thor tightens his grip on Loki, making sure no other Avenger or guard tries to escort his brother away. Loki is walked towards the door, and he gives a little sidelong glance at the Tesseract being put away in a silver brief case.
There he stands beside his older brother, awaiting his fate. Captain Rogers walks by, his finger at his earpiece.
“On my way down to coordinate Search and Rescue,” the red, white, and blue man says seriously.
Loki snickers and illusions himself into the Captain. “On my way down to coordinate Search and Rescue,” he says.
Stark looks up at the fake Captain America and his eyes narrow. The Hulk grunts, annoyed, wanting to bash the thin and already broken god back into the ground.
“I mean honestly,” Loki says to his brother, turning back into himself, “How do you keep your-”
Thor is taking something else from his belt. “Shut up,” he says angrily and slaps a metal gag over Loki’s mouth. Then they are moving again, and Thor takes Loki’s shoulder and moves him towards the elevator.
Thor, Loki, Stark, and two guards pile into the elevator. The Hulk waddles towards them as well and Loki smiles as Stark says, “Whoa! Whoa! What do you think? Maximum capacity has been reached.”
The doors start to close and both Thor and Loki wave cheerily. Thor looks over at Loki as they wave and they share a quick glance. Loki looks away.
“Take the stairs!” Thor calls after Hulk.
Loki wishes very much to say something snarky as well, but the metal gag stops him and angry tears well up in his eyes for just a moment before he shoves them back down. His mouth has gotten him many places and it kills him not to be able to speak.
The Hulk clenches his fists and Stark warns, “STOP, STOP-”
But the Hulk punches the elevator doors anyway and a large indent bulges in the elevator. Thankfully, the doors are closed and they begin their descent.
For a while, it’s quiet in the elevator. Then Stark speaks.
“You know reindeer games, we were really worried there for a second, but it’s all over now. You’ve lost.”
Loki raises an eye brow.
Stark is on a roll. He continues, “Who gave you that scepter? Whose army was that really?”
Loki raises his arm and points at the gag. Stark looks at Thor and the god of thunder sighs, reaching forward and taking the gag off.
“Wouldn’t you like to know who gave me the power to destroy your universe,” Loki says in a low chilling voice.
“Wouldn’t you like to know who is going to kill all your friends…” Loki leans forward, staring down at the mortal man. “And wouldn’t you like to know, that it’s all your fault.”
“Loki, enough,” Thor snaps and slaps the gag back on Loki’s mouth. Loki gives Thor a disdainful glance before closing his eyes and leaning against the elevator wall.
Stark is quiet, contemplating, and the rest of the elevator ride is uneventful.
DING the elevator doors open a minute later and Loki opens his eyes. Thor walks out first, followed by Stark on his left, and Loki behind, the two guards behind him.
As they are walking in the lobby, the group in affronted with another group.
“May I ask you where you’re going?” an older man in a suit asks.
“Lunch and then Asgard,” Thor says, his priorities straight. “I’m sorry, you are?”
“It appears it’s the man above folks like Nick Fury,” Stark explains quickly to Thor.
“Oh.”
“My friends call me Mr. Secretary,” the man says. “I’m going to have to ask you to turn that prisoner over to me.”
Loki looks up, glaring at the mortal. In forty years, this man will be dead, and Loki will be only a second older, and still, these men dare to pretend to be greater than may flies!
“Loki will be answering to Odin himself,” Thor argues.
Loki rolls his eyes.
“No, he’s going to answer to us, Odin can have what’s left,” the secretary says. “And I’m going to need that case,” he motions to Stark. “That’s been shield property for over seventy years.”
“Give him the case Stark,” another man says.
Loki looks mildly interested, but he keeps getting distracted by his thoughts, which are twisted from Thanos and the scepter.
When he finally regains his mind again, Stark is on the floor, having a heart attack. Loki backs up a little bit, yawning behind his gag. The others rush around the mortal and that’s when Loki notices the case with the Tesseract slide away, seemingly on its own.
His thoughts snap back to place and he starts to edge away from the crowd. He looks back at the guards to see if they noticed the running case, but they are all trying to help Stark.
A guard that looks strangely familiar grabs the case and starts to walk away with it. Loki is unsure at what to do. Should he try to run away and get the Tesseract? Who was that guard??
Just then, the Hulk bursts out of the door to the stairs and the guard goes flying through the air, hitting the ground with a smack. The case flies in a graceful arc, smacking into the floor and popping open. The blue glowing cube is jolted out of its container and slides straight across the floor, coming to a halt at Loki’s feet.
“Wow. I am the luckiest man alive.” Loki thinks to himself. He gives once more glance around before bending down and picking up the cube in both hands.
“Where is Thor?” the thought crosses his mind in a millisecond, but Thor is still bent over Stark, and Loki bids him a quick farewell before disappearing in between space and time.Where does Loki go??? Find out in the next chapter!!!!!
