#2 Where He Went
Swirling through mist and shadow, Loki was plunged through space, only his thoughts keeping him grounded and heading in a direction.
“Where should I go?” he asked himself. Should he find Thanos and try to redeem himself? No. He had failed his mission and the mad Titan would punish Loki. Again. Loki didn’t even want to think about Thanos and his persuasive ways to get what he wanted.
Loki thought some more. He hadn’t planned for this, it was entirely unexpected, but if there was one thing Loki was good at, it was thinking on the go. He went through his normal checklist.
What do I want?
That was easy. He had what he wanted. He had the Tesseract. But what did he want to do with the Tesseract? He didn’t have Thanos’ army anymore, so he couldn’t invade a planet by force. Did he really want to rule a planet? What did he really want? Loki decided that ruling Asgard would be a prosperous endeavor.
What are the complications?
Time. Loki had figured out a while ago that someone was messing with time. He wasn’t sure what had happened, but the Avengers were stealing infinity stones. That meant, if they were messing with time, that there was more than one Loki, at a different timeline. The Loki that hadn’t grabbed the Tesseract and escaped. Loki decided that before trying to take over Asgard, he would need to figure out what was going on. Maybe he could turn tides to his fortune.
This obviously had something to do with Thanos. Thanos hadn’t meant for Loki to figure out what was going on, but Loki, even being tortured, was sneaky. Thanos was planning something that had to do with wiping out a lot of people by using the Infinity Stones. Perhaps he had succeeded? And that’s why the Avengers were scrambling to gather the Infinity Stones.
What was Loki going to do with this situation? He had the Tesseract. Did that mean they were looking for him? He doubted it. They would probably go further back in time and grab another version of the Tesseract. But there couldn’t be two Tesseracts… So Loki was stuck in this timeline? No, he didn’t think so. With the Tesseract, he could travel through Space and Time.
So, what was Loki’s first move? He needed to figure out what was going on. He couldn’t base all his plans on his guessing game, as smart and seemingly accurate as it was.
Now he had his first move: In disguise, he would go forward in time and find out what had happened.
His second move, because he always had to have the next move, would be dependent on what he learned. But if was anything close to what he thought it would be, he would use this to his advantage and possibly, grab the Infinity Gauntlet for himself… He could do so much with his shape shifting, Tesseract, and clever mind. He could rule the Universe. After all, what did Thanos have in the beginning? A destroyed planet, his brawn, and a will.
