7 Avengers Compound Present Time
Loki wasn't too enthralled to be stuck in a locked room in the Avenger's Compound, but at least they hadn't chained his wrists together. Now, he sat, his back against the white walls, watching TV footage of the last decade.
Loki saw himself, invading New York. Then Barton, who had the remote, switched it to other events, such as the Dark Elves trying to destroy the Nine Realms at once, and Thanos killing half of the people on Earth.
After an hour of watching News re-runs, Barton shut off the TV.
"Hey," Loki protested. "I was watching that."
Barton ignored him. "Lot's happened since we last met," the archer stated.
"Not for me," Loki said slyly.
Barton didn't let anything Loki said phase him. He crossed his arms. Loki smiled.
"We need to know where you're at," Barton said. "Whether you're planning on anymore invasions of some sort. Whether we need to eliminate a threat now."
Loki tilted his head and kept on smiling. "How's your mind these days?" he asked.
Barton didn't flinch, but his eyes seemed to flicker for a moment.
Loki's grin widened. "I haven't seen that red head, what's her name? Nata-"
Suddenly, Barton's knife point was at Loki's throat, his hand fisted in Loki's black hair, drawing his head back and baring Loki's neck to the cold metal blade. Loki couldn't help but smile even wider, barely managing to hold back a laugh.
"Don't. You. Ever. Mention. Her. Name. Again." Barton said through clenched teeth.
Just then, the door to Loki's cell opened and the Winter Soldier stepped in. He stopped cold at seeing the scene at hand.
Barton let go of Loki's hair with a jerk and stood from his crouch. He didn't bother giving an explanation.
"I can't be with him," Barton muttered to Bucky as he stormed out of the room.
Bucky looked from the retreating figure of Agent Barton, and back to Loki. He didn't say anything.
"And who may you be?" Loki asked politely.
"Barnes." Bucky Barnes said stoically.
"Oooh, another one of those last name peoples," Loki mocked. "Well then, I'm Laufyson."
Bucky ignored Loki like Barton had tried to do. Instead, he just stood by the door, his hands crossed in front of him, gazing at the opposite wall.
"I really don't see what all the fuss is about," Loki said. "I simply came to Earth to rule them like a benevolent god. My father did it, why shouldn't I?"
Bucky didn't even look at Loki. Loki, annoyed, decided on a different tactic.
"Where's the red white and blue guy?" he asked, "What was his name again? Oh, Captain America. Wasn't he your best pal or something? Is he dead?"
Bucky didn't reply. He didn't even flinch.
Loki was having fun, but obviously, his words weren't enough to stir Barnes. Loki, better rested (gods heal quickly), illusioned himself as Captain America. Handsome, blond hair, square jaw, and deep voice. But... Loki also added a gaping wound in his chest for dramatics.
"Ugh," Loki moaned, his hands trying to stop the 'blood'.
"Bucky," he moaned, and Bucky's eyes snapped down to look at Loki, who had, one minute ago, not even known his last name. Little did Bucky know, that Loki knew a lot more than he was letting on.
"Bucky," Loki moaned again, "Why couldn't you save me? Why did you have to let me die? You let me be taken by Hydra! It's your fault I was experimented on and put into the ice! It's all your fault!"
Bucky, knowing that this wasn't true, cast his eyes back at the opposite wall. Loki, undeterred, dug deeper.
"Bucky, why did you kill all those people?" he asked. Bucky inhaled sharply. Success. "Bucky, when that Russian guy said those special words, why did you go and kill all those people? They were innocents! They didn't deserve to die! You are the monster that parents tell their children about at night-"
Bucky had heard this all before. From himself. But watching Loki say those things, the things that had tormented Bucky every single day of his life, in the form of his best friend, Steve, it was too much for his still unstable mind.
Bucky, barely managing to with strain himself from killing the god of mischief, left the room, slamming the door behind him, hearing Loki's chilling laugh follow him.
Alone, Loki stopped laughing.
"I've always been good at Flightings," he sighed, contented.
And then Wanda walked into the room, eyes full of fury...
"If you say one word to me," she said in her thick accent, "I will cut out your tongue."
Loki grinned. "Ooh, feisty," he said.
Wanda flicked her fingers and red mist spun into the air. Suddenly, Loki found that he could not speak. His eyes narrowed in anger and Wanda smiled, leaning against the wall of his cell and taking out her phone, obviously ignoring him as he struggled.
Loki had had people silence him before with magic. Many times. He was almost 1500 years old and had been giving snarky remarks his entire life. Though every time he was shut up by a different person, he would have to explore their magic, finding the way out. Wanda was powerful, and it gave something for Loki to do as he reached out with his magic to touch hers. He did it quietly, like a spy, so she wouldn't notice.
Loki was wildfire. His mother was a magician, raised by three witches. His father was a magician and the son of the old ones who created the Nine realms. Loki was a 1500-year old god. This girl, young woman, still perhaps in her twenties, was inexperienced. She had a surprising amount of power for a mortal, but she didn't have the background Loki had. Everyone always underestimated Loki.
SNAP
Loki's broke the magic and he heard the snap in his mind, though Wanda didn't seem to notice. She was so ill-trained. Not that it was her fault, there weren't exactly a lot of magic trainers on Midgard.
"Didn't you have a twin brother once?" Loki asked Wanda.
Wanda jumped, nearly dropping her phone. No one had ever broken her magic so quietly and easily.
"What did you do?" she asked, surprise filling her voice.
"You had a brother, and a boyfriend as well... the robot!" Loki remembered.
"Don't talk about my personal life," Wanda said, annoyed, "I'm not going to give you what you want."
"Oh, I think you will," Loki said with a smile. He had found his target. Standing, he slowly walked towards her. Wanda, confident in her magic, didn't back down. See, she was the right target, her mind was more open than the others. Yes, she had seen pain and death, but Bucky and Barton were older and had closed themselves off to the world. Wanda was still young, and it would be easier to read her thoughts. And she was a woman, easier to charm.
"You are so powerful," Loki breathed, stopping when he had gotten within a foot. He didn't want to scare her off.
"Loki. Step away." Wanda said calmly, her hands glowing with red magic.
"No one has ever fought against my own, weak magic, as much as you have. You controlled me as if I was your puppet," Loki said huskily, leaning in.
Wanda was frozen, not sure what to do. She couldn't help but wonder how a man who had just taken a dip in the Thames river, flew in a top secret jet to Upstate New York, and sat in a cell for hours, could smell so good.
"Yes, and if you don't back away right now, I will use my power to make you back away," Wanda said.
"But, my Wanda," Loki said softly, "I cannot help but be drawn to such power... and beauty," and with that, Loki transformed himself into Vision, Wanda's lost love.
With a shove, Loki was spread eagle on the floor, his ribs feeling most likely broken, and Wanda on top of him, murder in her eyes. Her hand was twisting over his forehead, trying to use the same magic as his, trying to read his thoughts. Loki, giving her a pained smile, reached up with his own hand and smacked it right on her forehead. She gasped, getting a taste of her own medicine.
Loki saw her past, her brother, happy and smiling, his blond hair spiky and pale face lit up when he saw Wanda. Then he saw him die, multiple bullets in his body. Then he saw Vision, he saw them becoming friends. Then he saw Vision die. He went farther back and saw Wanda's parents, dead. He saw Wanda and her brother hiding in their room, watching a bomb that said, STARK on it. Hmmm... why had she been working for him then?
Then Loki went into the memories he needed. The Tesseract had been in the Spider boy's hands. The boy had given it to Dr. Strange, who had given it to Nick Fury, who had given it to the Secretary, SHIELD. It was now locked away in an underground secret place that even Wanda didn't know of. Well, Loki could work with this, all he had to do was find the Secretary.
With a jerk, Wanda threw herself out of Loki's magic, picked him up with her red magic, and threw him against the wall. Just then, Barnes, Barton, and Spiderman flew the door open wide, weapons at the ready.
"This..." Wanda searched for the right word, "Scum, just searched my memories!"
Loki realized he was still in the form of Vision. Sheepishly, he transformed back into himself and held up his hands innocently, wincing at the pain in his ribs.
"You haven't given me anything to eat," he complained. "I was getting a little insane with hunger."
"Do gods even have to eat?" Spiderman asked.
"Yes, we do." Loki answered. He wished he had the mind stone. He wondered where it had gone... Maybe the Secretary would know that as well.
"Has anyone heard back from Thor yet?" Barton asked, "I'm getting sick of hearing this guy talk."
"We've contacted Captain Marvel," Banner said, joined them to stare down at Loki. "She's on her way to find Thor. Meanwhile, we've also contacted Valkryie, the Queen of Asgard on Midgard. She said he's..." Banner sighed. "All ours."
Loki raised his eyebrows. He thought all the Valryie had died gruesome deaths. He really needed to get up to date... he had a plan.
With glances at each other, the Avengers left the room. All of them. And locked the door behind them. Loki snickered. He had scared them off. He knew that there was a camera in the room, but no one was watching it right now, because Banner had come to inform them of the news. But Banner might be on his way back to the tech room, so Loki had to act now.
Turning into a little fly, Loki flew up into the very small vent and disappeared. He had what he had come for.
