"Goodmorning," prosecutor Kennady said to the jury.

Today Joseph Daniels and Bennit Jones is going on trial for the murders of the Perada family. Joseph and Bennit sat with their attorneys over to the left. Michael Burns representing Joseph while Elizabeth Cane represented Bennit.

Over to the left is where the prosecutors sat.

"Today Joseph Daniels and Bennit Jones go on trial for murdering an entire family of seven. Their attorneys will try and stray you away from the fact that these men took seven people out of their homes and took them to a separate location before giving them a brutal beaten," Kennady said.

After Kennady finished her opening speech she sat down before Burns got up.

"My client and I are here today to prove to you that he is not in no way shape or form responsible for the deaths of these seven."

After both attorneys said their peace they started to bring in witnesses. The first witness is Denise Flores. She is a white and Hispanic woman in her late 60's.

"Ms. Flores, can you tell me what you saw May 30th?" Kennady asked.

"Uh... it was early in the morning. I always get up around 6 o'clock to see the sunrise... that morning I went to grab my newspaper and I sat on my porch. Then I saw a black van park in front of their house-"

"In front of the Perada house?"

"Yes-"

"At what time do you think that van pulled up?"

"Uh... maybe 10 after," she replied trying to remember.

"Okay," Kennady said before Ms. Flores continued.

"I thought it was odd but I didn't pay it much mind. But then I saw a whole bunch of men dragging them out of the door and shovin them in the van," she said.

"Do you recognize the two men on trial today?" Kennady asked.

"Well yes, they put the girls in the van," she replied.

"Nothing further," Kennady said before sitting down.

"You said there were a bunch of men dragging the family out of their home correct?" Cane asked.

"Yes."

"Can you give me an estimate on how many?"

"Maybe 10," she replied.

"So therefore if my client did do as you say, he didn't do it alone is that correct?"

"Well I suppose-"

"Nothing further," Cane said before sitting down.

They brought in Victor Henderson. Victor admitted to helping gather up the family and put them into the van. Victor is a black man in his early 30's. He is currently serving up to 20 years in prison.

"Victor can you tell me what happened May 30th of last year?" Burns asked.

"This dude-"

"What dude?"

"Berkeley."

"Berkeley who?"

"Listen I don't know last names or first names I just know this dude who called himself Berkeley came to me."

"Okay..."

"We has already made deals-"

"Deals like how?"

"We'd bid on cases and fights, races and shit like that. He had asked me for a favor before-"

"What type of favor?" Burns asked.

"He asked me to go to they house and send James a warning," Victor replied.

"Did you?"

"Not really... The girl, the one with the real long hair, she answered the door and I just passed on the message."

"The message...?"

"That Berkeley was lookin for James. Then I left."

"Okay so on May 30th what part did you play?"

"I went in and grabbed the light one with the curly hair.... then he uh when I was pullin down the hall he pushed me and started punchin me," he said.

"So did you put them in the van?"

"Nah, I was behind."

"After you all got into the van where did you go?" Burns asked.

"An ally. We went to the ally and they went into a different van."

"So after you dropped them off you had no idea where they were going, no idea what was going to happen. Is that correct?" Burns asked.

"Yeah."

"There you have it ladies and gentlemen. If my client did participate in delivering the family to their killers there is no way he could have killed the family himself," Burns went on before sitting down.

"In your confession you said that Berkeley wasn't the only one who was involved..." Kennady said.

"Yeah. Seems like Berkeley teamed up with one of the kids friends or somethin-"

"Do you know which one?"

"Nah... I just know there was a lot of shady shit goin on. Berkeley offered one of the friends to give him information about their whereabouts, what time they'd be home, and all of that. Berkeley was stalkin the family way before May 30th," he said.

"Nothing further," Kennady said.

They put Teagan on the stand. She was crying so they gave her a box of tissues.

"Ms. Artaga, can you tell me the last time you spoke to the Perada family?" Kennady asked.

"Yes... it was the night of Quinton's birthday. I saw Quinton and Amara in the drug store," she replied.

"In your statement you said that you had an argument with Quinton that night. Is that correct?"

"Yes... well no. It was just a conversation."

"A conversation about what?"

"About us... i asked him why he broke up with me," she replied.

"You also said in your statement that you weren't too fond of Amara. That you hated her, in fact-"

"I didn't mean that! I didn't really hate Amara. We just didn't always seem eye to eye," she said cutting her off.

"You didn't just 'not see eye to eye' you two got into a physical fight. Roll the tape please," Kennady said before showing the video of Teagan and Amara fighting in the park.

"That's not what it looks like. She came at me!"

"Seems to me that from the video you hit her first."

"It was stupid. I-I didn't know it would come to this-"

"Come to what?" Kennady asked before Teagan got quiet.

"Do you know a man by the name of Berkeley?" Kennady asked.

"No... no," she replied.

Kennady looked at her for a moment before saying, "nothing further."

The other attorneys didn't have anything to say. The judge called for the trial to continue tomorrow before everyone went home and prepared to return tomorrow.
