"What?" I exclaim. My mouth is hanging open. His parents were murdered?!
"How?" I ask before quickly adding, "If you don't mind me asking"
He chuckles, lightening up the room before the dark mood took over again.
"There was a storm and my parents went out to dinner to celebrate their five year wedding anniversary. It was late when they left the restaurant and they were driving to this house to pick me up. A car was driving on the wrong side of the road and...and" the tears started to stream down his face. I moved closer to him and grabbed his hand. I squeezed it and he looked up at me. "And ran into my parents car"
I couldn't help but think of my dad and his car accident. I started to cry for my dad and his parents. Logan pulled me into his lap and hugged me close to his chest. I have cried so much tonight and I hardly ever cry. The last time I cried this much it was after my parents died.
"You don't have to cry for me" Logan speaks up. I pull back from the hug and look at his face. His eyes are red and puffy from crying and I'm sure mine are like that too.
"My dad died in a car accident" I tell him.
"Oh Amy" he pulls me back into a hug. "I'm so sorry" he whispers.
"It's okay" I whisper back. To be honest I don't want to move. I am too comfortable.
"Amy I think you should give them a chance. It's always good to hear them out" he tells me referring to my question. I stay quiet though. He is right. I should give her a chance. This is the only way that I can have a somewhat normal life. I'm sure her parents can help me find out what happened to my mom and expose Bruce.
"Logan" a women's voice yells before opening up his bedroom door.
I jumped out of his lap, my cheeks turn bright red.
"Oh sorry!" she stammers "I didn't know Logan had a friend over"
"It's okay" I smile. Out of the corner of my eye, Logan's face is bright red. Embarrassment is written all over face.
"I'm Danielle" she walks over to the bed and extends her hand.
"Amy" I shake her hand and offer her a smile.
"I'll take your trash and dishes" she tells us while picking up the spoons and ice cream container. She walks towards the door and pauses before closing the door. "Logan, I hope you did your homework"
"I should probably do my homework then" Logan finally says. I can't help but notice how different Danielle and Logan really look. It's really obvious that they aren't blood related. I silently watch Logan get up and start sorting through is backpack for the materials that he needs. He pulls out The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and several different colored pens. He stands in front of his desk and stares at it searching for something.
"Whatcha looking for?" I chuckle. He looks lost and confused.
"A paper with notes about this book" he raises the book up for me to see.
"Why don't you start reading and I look for it" I suggest. He shrugs and moves to his bed as I stand up.
"What does it look like?" I ask.
"It's a page that was ripped out of a packet. There are four different colors of underlining on it" he explains. "Oh! and there is a drawing of a raft floating down a river." At that I turn around and give him a questionable look.
"What?" he shrugs. "I got bored in class"
I start to laugh.
"I don't know what's so funny about that"
