The Advice

Surprisingly, Keil didn't report me. But he continued to glare at me throughout lunch and dinner, and would always avoid me any other time. On the second day of waiting in agony, Opal called me into a new room. It was similar to a study area, with blue curtains and carpet. I sat down on a chubby leather chair and wait for her to proceed.

'So, what advice do you have for me in the Arena?' I inquire, grabbing a cupcake. That was the proper name for the solid batter. Food was literally everywhere here. Opal stands up and pulls down a technical screen. She taps it and writing pops up. Judging by the language, it was written by her. She strides to the side, her long orange jacket flowing behind her.

'First Tip: Do not EVER light a fire unless you can put it out.' I nod. In the 17th Games, the strongest Tribute was killed because of her stupidity.

'Second Tip: The element of surprise is brilliant. With your thin build, I assume that you can run fast, climb and jump high, no?'

'Um...' I mumble, looking down in embarrassment.

'Don't worry- we will make sure that you train in Parkor.' Parkor? What was Parkor?

'Next is the Corpoconia. My advice- go for it. But be fast, in and out. A good way to delay others from getting there is by

shouting "Bear!" Or something like that to distract them for a few seconds.' Opal clicks on the note on the screen and an image of the Corpoconia pops up. One of the only things that stayed the same in the Hunger Games was the shape of the Cornocopia. If you were set facing the end of it, it could be either really bad or really good.

'Opal,' I speak up. 'What do I do if I don't get anything at all?'

'You act confident to get sponsors. Create a character for yourself. We need to do that in the Chariot rides tomorrow.' She notes. 'People spend their money on those who they think will win- boast about false events, be confident, act as if you've already won it.' I nod, following along. It was a smart tactic.

'Now: Allies. This is the tough subject. During training, ally with only one person with similar talents. Nearing the end, it is ideal to split up, when it gets to the final five. Part ways, then the next time you find them- forget that you even know the person.' I gulped. How could I betray an ally like that? No. I clench my fists and my mind races. I will ally with someone who has a family. Someone to fight for. And I will ensure that they live, no matter what.

Opal suddenly walks over to me and sits in the chair beside mine. Leaning in, she whispers:

'Just between you and I, I want you to win instead of Keil.' I smile at that weakly. Little did she know, after I take him out, I won't win.
