May Oliet- Day 6

I ran. I ran as fast as I could away from the boy from 6, carrying an axe in hand, swinging it violently and laughing like a maniac. My short brown bob was now matted and torn, but my clothes were in good shape. I turn to see his red face grinning evilly from a few meters behind. I regret doing that and run, clenching my fists. No. I bite my teeth together. It couldn't end like this. I, May Oliet, would not die this way, cowdering in fear. I would win this. I had already lost my ally, using them to defend the enemies arrows. And I felt no remorse. I was happy, glad that the odds were getting better and better in my favour.

I smiled with my dry, thirsty lips. I was determined. I would live. I would kill this boy once and for all. I rush through a mound of leaves, pass a log and finally see a clearing. Oh no. Two other tributes- but wait! One was lying, most likely injured. I put on my best worried face, and ran towards the standing girl, sobbing. I ran to her and hugged her, hearing her gasp. They my only hope, I thought, grinning evilly. And I would use them to get to the finals, no matter what.

Abigail Crest- Day 6

I stood up, knife at the ready, only to be embraced by a teary girl. I stood there, shocked.
'Help me!' She wailed. I looked up and saw that she was talking about a boy, running straight for us. I push the girl aside and grab my spear. The boy pauses and recognizes me. He turns, then runs back, knowing I was better than him.
'That's right, you better run!' Maddy shouts after him. I turn to face her.
'What?' She asks. I roll my eyes at Maddy.
'Abigail? From Eight?' The girl croaks. I pry the girl away and hold her shoulders.
I look down at her.
'Yeah, that's me.'
'Oh please, please help me! I only have a little food left and no water! Can you ally with me for just a few days? Only one or two, I promise!' I look down at her dirty little face and green eyes. I looked over at Madeline, who was also wondering what to do.
'Little girl-' I start.
'It's May.' She says. 'May Oliet.'
'Look May- we won't harm you but you must-'
'Stay two nights with us.' Madeline declares. I turn to her, shocked. This was the Hunger Games. May started jumping up and down and squealing with glee, then stopping herself.
'Thank you Abigail and Madeline- oh thank you!'
'But you need to help out, and leave in two days time. First, please help Madeline start a fire. Okay?' I ask her. She nods. 'Good. I'll go hunting. Madeline, give her some water. I'll be back in an hour.'
'Sure! Hey May, did you hear about that guy from 11's score? A two! Ha! Surprised he isn't gone yet.' I hear her talk as I walk off.

I roll my eyes at her as I walk along the river, aware that it was an illusion. The barrier reflected the river. It was smart. Too smart. I hear a rustle and turned back around. I spot a squirrel- the first one in two days. We were running low on food, two days after the Depth Unravel Mechanism Device- or the DUMB-what Madeline named the Arena's circular killing device. We only had some nuts and fruit. I pull my knife and throw it at the squirrel, but it scurries away and my knife ends up in a branch. Groaning, I climb up the pine tree and yank out my dagger.
'Another mouth to feed and food supplies going down already,' I pretend to mutter to myself, when I was hinting to Opal and the Capitol I needed more sponsorship attention. I couldn't blame them- there hadn't been much action other than the Cornucopia, tetanus and waterside to doom. A small chime and the clatter of metal alarms me. I glance upwards to see a parachute-yes! Speak of the devil. What would it be? I wondered, clasping my hands around the lid. I told myself to be patient, and opened the cap to be amazed. Sitting in front of me were three rolls of soft, white, grainy bread, a warm silver pot and a white clump of string- a fishing net! How could I be so stupid? The number of animals on land had been decreasing, yes, but not the fish! Before I climb down, I spot the squirrel, dead on the branch. I didn't hit it, did I? I pick up the animal and gasp. The animals was smooshy, blood oozing the second I touched it. I ignore it, and climb down, not forgetting the image.

After spending an hour of trying to start a fire, my new ally walked back to our camp. Abigail held a sponsor gift in one hand- I hadn't received one myself yet. Madeline looked to me with a smile.
'Look what we got,' Abigail smiled. Madeline and I looked at the contents including a delicious meal and a fishing nets. All that I thought for the rest of the day, munching on my roll for breakfast, eating a fish for lunch and tasting some spicy chicken and rice, was: I hit the jackpot.
