"NOT MUCH OF A TALKER?"-
Finn was an odd kid.
He never liked going outside to play with his friends, nor did he ever enjoy doing anything.
Of course, he was only five years old. He hadn't discovered the wonders of the world and how it worked. It was mid summer, school had ended a month ago and kids were still playing outside everyday.
Most were inside, staying at home all summer to do nothing.
Today was the day that Finn decided that maybe he should go outside. What's the worst that could happen?
His other friends were outside having a blast so why couldn't he?
So, he hopped off his bed and wandered around the house, seeing his brother talking on the phone in the hallway and his father coming up the stairs.
He slowly went down the stairs after his father passed, not wanting to fall. He went step by step, climbing down until he reached the bottom to see his mother in the kitchen.
She was sitting at the dining table reading some blue book that sat in her hands.
She noticed Finn and closed the book, smiling happily.
"Hey, sweetheart. What can I help you with?" His mother asked, he smiled sweetly, dimples forming in the sides of his cheeks.
"Can- can I go play with Gaten and Caleeb?" He asked, mispronouncing Caleb's name a little differently than it should be said.
His mother laughed at how cute he was, nodding to him that she was saying yes.
He did a little yay and his mother walked him down the street to Caleb's house. She could hear them playing in the backyard.
She knocked on the back gate and the boys let Finn in.
The last thing he remembers is his mother smiling to him proudly, giving a thumbs up and saying I love you.
Later after she had left, the three boys had spotted a weird opening in the back fence of Caleb's house.
They all climbed under, curious as to what was behind the fence.
Just plain old grass, rocks and trees, nothing else. By now, the sun was almost setting.
"I wonder what made the hole in your fence Caleb." Gaten said, scratching the back of his neck. Caleb shrugged and looked towards Finn teasingly.
"Maybe it was a coyote!" He said, causing gaten and Finn to jump in fear, Finn didn't really know what a coyote was but the name scared him. They all looked at each other and ideas started to form in their brains.
Caleb had a better idea than the rest of the boys.
"Hey Finn, I dare you to go deeper into the woods. But you're probably too chicken anyway." He mutters, causing Finns eyebrows to furrow and his eyes to widen.
"You're crazy." Gaten mumbles, shaking his head at Caleb's antics.
Caleb was older than the two boys by just a few years and Finn was the youngest, so by instinct in Finns mind, he wanted to be cool like him. So if he did what he asked, maybe they'd think he's cool.
