Mochi sat down in her room, leaning against the door so nobody could power their way in, and she was crying. Pounding was going on against the door, antagonizing her. Her mother screeched out words of discouragement, as though she had no idea what kind of accepting place this epneighborhood was supposed to be. She called her a million names, a million awful things with only one words describing who she was: Queer.

In this house, being any sort of queer was strictly forbidden. In this house, your gender is your sex and you love your opposite sex. In this house you must be a perfect child or your eyes treated like a slave in the 1800s Confederacy, whips and all. She was lucky she fell in love with Tulio, a boy. She was biologically a girl. Nobody could attack her for Tulio. But they could attack her sexuality and gender identity. They could attack her expression and the clothes she borrowed because her parents refused to buy her anything new until she stopped pretending to have a "mental disorder".

In this moment, Mochi had a thought. What if she ran off? What if she lived like Aia and moved between houses every day. Her friends loved her and would take care of her... right? Tulio lets her stay over a lot, so maybe she can live with Tulio, Olivia, and Uncle Clover. But the banging got louder and suddenly there was a loud cracking sound ripping through the room above the banshee screeching that came from the devil that is her mother. Mochi's blood went cold.
