"What!? What are you?" I asked. Alyson smiled at me, revealing two very pointy cainines. "I am a gargoyle, but only half. I am not made of stone." She said, so calmly as if we were talking about a class assignment.
She kneeled at me and I looked at her, completely confused. "You are the daughter of Jack." She got up and looked at me, her astonishing blue eyes shone toward me. "Does Alex know?" I asked quietly. "N..no. He has no idea. You're the only one that knows." I nodded, no one knew about me but her.
"We should get to class. But I need to fix your makeup." Alyson told me, I nodded. She quickly fixed mine and we charged out of the door. A teacher was standing on the outside of the bathroom, holding Wess by the shoulder. "Are you okay?" She asked me gently. I just shrugged and glared at Wess. I heard Alyson growl slightly next to me, surprising me.
"Weslyan, you need to apologize for your awful behavior. You will be suspeneded for the rest of this week and next. This will not be tolerated." Ms. Chance said, coming up beside him. "This is principal Gocher." Alyson explained to me, gesturing to the woman holding Wess by the shoulder.
Wess turned a dark red in the face. "This isn't fair!" He yelled, trying to break free of Mrs. Gocher's grasp. "You slapped a new student, my friend in the face!" Alyson yelled, making all of us jump.
The room was silent for a bit. Mrs. Gocher dragged Wess away and I smiled at Alyson. "Well, we better get to class." Before she could say anything else, Ms. Chance walked over to us.
"Well, I am very sorry that happened, Spark. Tell y'all what, since it's Friday, why don't I ask Mrs. Gocher if you can leave, Spark? It's been a long day." Mrs. Chance said.
"Okay, but I have no way of getting home." I shrugged. "I can take her." Alyson smiled. "Okay, why don't we go to Mrs. Gocher's office and ask?"
We headed down the steps and to the grey office building. Mrs. Chance lead us through the main doors and to a waiting area. I sat down in one of the chairs.
I waited with my legs crossed. Ms. Chance came out of Mrs. Gocher's office shortly. "You're welcome to leave. And sorry that happened to you."
I shrugged. "It's okay." Alyson walked out of the front office and down the side street. We approached a bright blue truck. She held open the door for me. I climbed in and she started the engine.
I directed her toward my house and she parked in front. "Wasn't as scary looking as I thought it was gonna be!" She laughed. "I'm staying with my relatives." I informed her with a shrug.
She glanced at me and smiled. "Okay, first thing's first, let's take this ridiculous makeup off!" I nodded at her.
We pulled into the driveway and I realized both cars were gone. "I don't think they're home." I said quietly. "Well, why don't you call them and see if they left a key?" I picked up my phone and called them. Samantha had showed me how to use one before I went to school.
Teenagers were constantly on them, trying to avoid each other, I guess. I don't get it. I clicked on her number. "Hello?" "Hey, Samantha! I'm at the house right now, we were sent home early." "Are you okay? What happened!?" "Samantha, I'm fine. A kid stirred up some trouble but it's okay. They said I looked tired and it was Friday after all."
"Okay. As long as you're okay." I accidentally hit speaker. I jumped back as it made a loud noise. Alyson laughed at me and caught the phone. "Yes, I'm fine." I smiled. "How did you get home?"
"A friend brought me home. Is it okay if she comes inside?" There was a few beats of silence, I took it off speaker. "As long as they don't know. I have to go. There's a key under the mat, be safe! Love you. Bye!"
I hung up. We got out and I walked up to the door, my bones creaking. I reached under the mat with my long, skinny fingers and grabbed the key. I held it up to show it to Alyson.
"You look like your father right now." She laughed. I grinned at her and opened the door. It swung open and we walked inside. "Nice place! Better than mine!" She laughed. I froze, something came over my vision and I saw black shapes all around. I was sure that I was just tired. I shook it off and Alyson came back into view.
"Where do you live?" There was a bit of silence, I acted as if my vision had not just happened. I turned to Alyson and she looked sad. "I live in a cave. Whoever I was supposed to live with left me."
I paused for a moment. "Why would they do that?" "I was left with humans." I was about to say something else when there was a loud shattering noise.
I looked at Alyson and she shrugged. She pushed me behind her and walked forward. We reached the kitchen and I saw our window was shattered!
"Spark, get back!" She whispered to me. I remembered, my vision!
