"Where's Sally?" I asked Jack. I had found him looking at a map in the study, his hands curling around the corners of the desk.
He just stared at me, shellshocked. "I..I haven't seen her for a few hours. I don't know where she is!" He said worriedly. I had a terrible feeling, like snakes were crawling in my stomach. It was a few days after my date, closer to Halloween.
"I have a terrible feeling about this.." I said. Jack leaned down and looked at me. "What do you feel? Is it a pleasant spooky or not?" He asked. "Not. I'm worried, something's wrong." I said quickly.
"We must look for her!" He proclaimed. He walked quickly, because of his long legs, 5 of my steps seemed to match only 1 of his.
I chased him through the house and ran into the mayor at the bottom of the staircase. He looked nothing like his usual self. He looked like a short, beefy lumberjack. "Mayor! Thank goodness we found you! Can I see your megaphone?" Jack asked.
The mayor shook his head sadly. "I'm very sorry, Jack, I don't know where it is!" Without warning, Jack let out a banshee shriek. The entire house went quiet. "Everyone! Come to the basement!" He screeched, making me cover my ears.
Like a wild group of animals, everyone took off for the basement. I followed carefully behind, searching for my mother, or any sign of her. I reached the basement and Jack took my hand, gently shoving his way to the front.
I saw Chuckles, the clown with the tearaway face, in the front. There were a lot of residents that I didn't know personally, which made me nervous to be standing in front of them. "Everyone! If you please." Jack called, this time, in a loud, booming voice. There was instant silence in the room as Jack began to speak.
"Has anyone seen Sally? Anywhere?" Jack asked, he looked really nervous. "I saw her outside earlier." I recognized Hangman, the big, loveable tree with 5 skelentons hanging from his branches. "How long ago?" Jack asked, wringing his hands together. "Maybe two times?" Hangman asked. Times were hours, and things were minutes, and scowls were years, Oogie, unfortunately, had taught me when I was younger.
"Okay, we need to search for her!" Jack announced. The feeling in my gut got worse, tugging at my spine and making my skin cold, like winter. We all left the basement and began looking all over the whole entire house, as well as the land.
I walked into a clearing and looked around, there were only trees. I began to walk away, but stopped dead in my tracks. I was having a vision! Sally was tied against a tree, and there was a man, with his back to me. He was wearing what looked to be a devil costume. He was holding something, a long stick with a light brown top. He struck something against his foot and lit the stick with it. I watched as he set it at the base of the tree. "You will tell me where she is!" He yelled at Sally. "No! I won't! Oogie will never get her!" Sally yelled back.
Before I could see anything else, I was brought back to the clearing. I now saw a black cloak hanging in the tree. "Oh no!" I said out loud. "Spark! What is it?" Gumpy, the creature made out of green goop, asked me. "Get Jack." I managed to finally say. He ran as fast as he could toward the edge of the clearing.
I walked toward the cloak and looked around the tree. There were strange tracks leading over a bush. "This isn't good." I said out loud. I heard a rustle and jumped.
There was a little girl looking at me. Her hair was green, like seaweed. I gripped my key and forced it to turn into my sword. I held it in front of me, the point facing her.
