It took a while to get across town, traffic wasn't too bad for having around three million people in this city.  Bill parked his new car out in front of the run down apartment building, where Jeff lived. There were a few people hanging around outside, smoking cigarettes and swaying about, they were all so fucked up out of their minds. You could just tell. Bill made sure to lock up his ride, "Not to bad Jeff." He just shrugged. "It's fine." We all walked up to the four story building, one of the junkies leaned up against the door. "Hey, Jeff, Man!" He had much enthusiasm, in his smokey voice- "You got anymore Smack?" Jeff looked at the guy, like he wasn't supposed to have said that. I knew when I saw Jeffery that he looked different, I bet he's on dope as well. He jerked the metal door open and ushered Bill and I upstairs. "Do you?" Jeff didn't look back at the begging addict, and continued course. We walked to the second floor, a few roaches scattered around the steps as we climbed across their paths on the dark wood staircase. There were two different apartments on each level and Jeff's was at the end of the hall leading up the next stairway. "Well, here we are." He grabbed a silver little key from his 'blazer' pocket and stuck it into the hole, he turned the key and hit the door making a loud thud with the palm of his hand. "It doesn't open easily, you have to knock it open." Jeff answered before anyone even asked. "I guess that's a pretty good thing." Bill laughed, I accidentally knocked into my red headed friend, as Jeff lead us into his apartment. "Watch it, Little Girl." Bill said, said stepping towards Jeffrey. I smiled up at him. The place was basically three rooms all connected to one another. The Kitchen (if you could even call it that) was basically a grimey stove and two portable counters pushed beside it, no sink or anything. It was connected to the living room, an old brown and orange sofa sat in the middle of the floor, a wooden coffee table in front of it, there were records scattered all over the floor a record player was pushed in the corner. Along with all of that it was a junkie's paradise, needles scattered the stained hardwood floor and lay along side the couch. Cigarette butts were overflowing in a small glass ash tray, other than those things it was okay clean. "Sorry about the mess, I had friends over yesterday." He automatically went to cleaning up the drug paraphernalia. I looked over at Bill, who was already staring straight at me. Yeah, Jeff was differently on drugs. He finally got all the needles cleaned up and emptied the ash tray out the living room window. "You two wanna see the bedroom now?" Bill nodded, "Sure." And we walked less than six steps to the back bedroom. Jeff pushed open the door for us, Bill and I walked in like we were checking it out as our own, since we would probably end up taking over Jeff's space and all three of us knew that. Anytime Will and I were let in, will there was no going back at that point, you either rolled with it, or wanted to pull your hair out by the third day. There was a dirty queen sized bed, in the corner of the room a window right above, so you could look out from the bed, there was a black out curtain covering it though. There was a very small closet on the wall facing the bed, and Jeff managed hanging some of his things in it. "You're doing pretty good for yourself, Jeff." I stated sitting down on the bed. "Well it's a roof over my head, the bathroom is a disaster and it gets pretty creepy when the roaches come out." Bill walked towards the bed, looking at everything. "Beats livin' on the streets." Jeff laughed lightly at Will, "Sure as hell does.. So do you guys wanna stay here?" I looked up at Jeff, not really having to think about his question. "I'd love too. If that'd be fine, it's either here or a park bench, so this is great." "Bill, what about you?" He nodded his head. "Yeah, I'll stay here. Wait just to be sure though, are there any rules?" Jeffrey shook his head. "No there isn't any rules." "Good, I'm in. I'll have to go get mine and Kitty Kat's shit from Gina's." "You're still with her?" Bill made a face, "Yeah, I'll probably break up with 'er now though, since I don't need her for a place to stay anymore." I nodded at his words, still doesn't give me a chance. He was caught up with chasing hot California ass, and we both knew it. "Well, go get your guys stuff I guess and get moved in." Bill stood up, "Thanks, Jeff, really." Jeff non-chalantly waved his hand at Bill. "Don't worry about it, Man." "You coming with me, Kat?" Bill asked looking down over me, looking as handsome as ever. "Sure." He held his hand out, I grabbed and he pulled me from the bed. "See you after while then, Jeff." I smiled making my way out from the bedroom with Will. He didn't reply, he just nodded his head. "Is Gina at her apartment?" "I don't know, Kitty. I don't keep up with her anymore." We made our way back down the stairs and out onto the streets, the junkies were gone now, they must've got run off or something. We got back into Bill's car, he started it up, pulled from the parallel parking spot and began cruising down the street. "Do you have any money left from yesterday?" I asked Bill, referring to the fact yesterday was Friday and He had gotten payed. "Yeah, about thirty five dollars. Why do you ask?" "Just curious, I don't have any money left." "Well, is there something you need?" Bill questioned, talking to me softly, looking at me with his perfect doll eyes. "You know like four days ago when we went to Denny's together?" I asked him. "Of course, what is this about?" "I haven't had really had anything to eat since then, I stole a slushie today, and I stole an Apple yesterday." Bill grabbed my small hand and held it in his soft, warm palm. And in a real low, raspy voice- "If you ever need anything, anything at all- just say and I'll do it for you, no matter what, okay? Don't go without eating or something. That's why we're in this together, you an' me." He pulled my hand up to his lips, and kissed my knuckles, taking his eyes off the road for a second to look into mine.  I didn't really know what to say, he made my heart flutter around in my chest. He turned his attention back to driving, but kept ahold of my hand. "Thanks, Will." "No problem." We arrived at his girlfriend's place relatively quick for L.A. county. "Are we both going in or what?" "No, I'll just go in and get everything. I need to talk to Gina, I guess." "Okay, are you sure 'cause I don't want you to have to get all of my stuff." "No, it's fine." Bill got out of the car, leaving the keys with me. He stopped briefly outside Gina's building looking for car, before continuing inside.
