Note to self - when a guys smile makes you forget your own name, your in some deep shit.
-Austin’s POV-
“This way,” I said, leading him down the street, “so, tell me about yourself, Alan.”
God, I was so lame. My first question was so unoriginal. This is what freshman orientation did to a person.
“I’m eighteen.”
“No, I didn’t mean-” I turned and found myself under the full blown force of his brown eyes penetrating mine, “That is, I’m glad you’re over eighteen, I don’t want to get in trouble for holding your hand or anything.”
“Yeah, well you don’t really strike me as the type of guy who just holds hands.”
“You’re right.” I exhaled “But maybe I’m just a fan of yours, kitten.” It was true. I liked his hands. I liked everything about him. I almost felt bad for corrupting him, for wanting him.
Almost being the key word.
“And there’s the nickname.”
I chuckled, “There it is,” I squeezed his hand more. We walked across the lawn and down the sidewalk in silence, and as we passed a few cars, the silence stretched out even further, then finally, by the second street lamp, he tugged his hand from mine.
“Look, I don’t know what you’re trying to do here, and I appreciate your help and stuff but-”
“But?” Amused, I raised my eyebrows.
“But I’m not like that.” he whispered.
“Like what?”
“That.” his cheeks flushed red “I don’t really hook up with girls”
I threw my head back and laughed, loudly. He looked startled.
“You think I was trying to get you to hook up with a random girl?” I forced out, still trying not to fall into a fit of hysterics, “I don’t really hook up with girls either. I’m not like that. Now we’ve had that conversation, we can be friends.”
Alan’s face blushed tomato red: he looked mortified. Poor kitten. Before he could answer me, one of my teammates drove up (worst timing ever) and yelled out his window “Carlile! Party at Kappa tonight!” He honked his horn and peeled out.
“Friends?” he asked
“Worse,” I said smiling, “teammates.” I stopped walking and touched his arm lightly. “You want to go to a different party?”
“I should probably get back -”
“Come.” I pulled him closer to me, “Just for a few minutes. I’ll introduce you to some upperclassmen, get you some milk, and have you tucked in safely by midnight.”
His eyes narrowed.
“Fine, I’ll have you tucked in alone. As in, without me.”
Alan looked down the street. “Fine. Thirty minutes, and don’t think I won’t use the rape whistle!”
“Please do,” I whispered, “Then when you return it, I’ll know exactly what it feels like to have your lips blowing across mine.”
He flinched. “You can’t say things like that to me.”
“Why?” I tilted his chin towards my face, “Does it make you uncomfortable?”
“Yes.” He whispered.
“Fine,” I sighed, “then I’ll just think them and look in your direction longingly every few minutes, sound good?”
He laughed. “Whatever makes you happy.”
“Whistles.” I nodded, “And redheads.” I reached for his hand again, “Virgins.” Interesting, his blush deepened, and his hand gripped mine tighter. I was good at reading people and I’d bet my entire fortune that he’s never been kissed. It was why it made him uncomfortable. “Virgin lambs.” I think I liked kitten better, but lamb was more fitting in the situation. I sighed. “I might just sacrifice you on the altar.”
“I’d rather not be sacrificed.”
“You never know,” I said with a cocky grin, “You may like it.”
“You never know, “ he sighed dreamily, “I may stab you.”
“Fair enough.” I laughed, “Now lets go. People to see, milk to drink, freshman to corrupt.”
