I did not hear from Reif againfor two weeks and in those two weeks, it became abundantly clear thatI was in fact going to have Anders' baby. I did my best to keep thesecret from our companions. I didn't think they would find it alltogether wise to continue fighting in my condition. Anders was nottoo keen on the idea either, but he never questioned me. I saw theworried glances he would shoot me while I sparred with Daeron orBeri. I think Beast sensed it as well, getting very defensive of me.

We were staying in an inn at avillage 4 days' journey from Banaila when I heard from Reif again.The night he popped into my dreams, I nearly tackled him in myexcitement. "I'm so glad you're alright..." I said, hugginghim tightly.

"Yes," he said, hugging meequally as tight. "You should be near Banaila now if not therealready."

"Cedar Falls," I agreed."So what happened?"

"Dissension in the ranks,"he said evasively. "Things are settled now. I should be able tovisit you more often," he promised.

"Good," I said, smiling."I miss you."

"And I you, Stasia. How arethe others?" he asked.

"Well, I think Beri hasfinally accepted Wen. I even saw her giving her tips with her bowyesterday when she thought no one was looking. Daeron's sparringskills have improved. He got me pinned last week. Anders is... well,Anders. and Lúthiel still won't speak to anyone." I convenientlyleft out my condition.

"The girl took Stefan'sdeath quite hard," he mused.

"They were close before."I didn't need to finish.

"Yes, it is sad." Hesighed.

We caught up for a bit longerbefore he left me to my sleep. I didn't share with him about thepregnancy, sort of liking that it was something Anders and I couldshare together. Sooner or later, the others would find out, but fornow, it was ours.

When we reached Banaila, Lúthielquietly left our company without even a farewell. She returned to theelves, which I found out from Wen after she visited with her family aweek later.
