okay so it seems like no one is willing to have the conversation on how problematic grown-ish is so here I am with my input. this show is so fucking trash but i love watching it cause it's corny.
1. zoey
i don't think i've ever hated a main character more than zoey (plus elena from tvd).
okay let's talk about how this bitch is literally in a relationship for validation. she literally has all the guys in the school wanting her and makes it the biggest deal in the world. can we just talk about how unrealistic that is. trust me when i say this: NOBODY IN COLLEGE DOES THAT SHIT.
the creators of this show literally had the concept of high school in mind because how is it that this rich lightskin black girl gets the stoner, the woke pro black dude, and athlete all at her feet? that doesn't happen and this plays into my next issue: COLORISM.
2. colorism
okay so i don't know how many people who are reading this truly understand colorism because some people don't understand racism. if this makes you uncomfortable, YOU ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM
okay so let's talk about the brainless idiots who casted these characters. how is that this show has the main black characters lightskinned.
i know what you're thinking : "stop making everything about color" BUT EVERYTHING IS ABOUT COLOR.
why is that they have chloe and halle's characters be the ones to talk about colorism when they're lightskinned. did the producers even realize that?
okay so we have jas i believe (i forgot who is who) discuss colorism but at the same time she's the one who is seen as aggressive and mean. WHY IS THIS THE ONLY NARRATIVE FOR BLACK WOMAN WHEN IT COMES TO COLORISM?
why is it that zoey who is lightskinned gets all the guys running towards her while the "lightskinned adjacent" characters struggle to have any guys talk to them.
ughhh this show is so dumb.
3. feminism
okay so there was this important conversation nomi (idk how to spell that bitches name) was having about how being bisexual and how woman can sometimes contribute to gender roles and whatever and you know what?
the topic gets tossed out like a hot potato.
what is the point of having these conversations but it brings literally NOTHING to the table. NOTHING.
