It was a sunny Thursday afternoon, and as always Yasmine and I were walking home from school. We've been best friends since year 7 and lived only a few houses away from each other.

"I really don't want to do that English assignment!!" Yasmine said loudly.

"Me neither." I said. It was a pretty stupid assignment, but I was actually pumped to do it.

"How are you so good at English?!" She asked me with a puzzled look on her face.

"I don't know, I guess it comes naturally." I said.

We turned the corner into our street, the trees hanging over the fences of the houses made it look like a emerald green tunnel, and created enough shade that Yasmine and I didn't have to squint any more. We passed Yasmine's neighbours purple fence, then she stopped in their driveway. I looked at her with a confused look on my face.

"What are you doing?" I asked her.

"Amy, I've been wanting to ask you this for a while but haven't had the guts to do it yet." She explained.

"Amy, will you be my 'I don't have anyone to go to the formal with so I'm going with my friends' date to the formal?" She asked me.

I looked at her and put my hand on my heart.

"I would love to be your date to the formal Yas!!" I said calmly.

We looked at each other, then began to laugh. We linked arms and continued to walk home.

We came to Yasmine's house, gave each other a hug and said goodbye. I continued walking to my house and walked up my own driveway that was made of concrete. I came to the front door and got my house keys out of my bag. Just as I had gotten them out, the front door opened. My mum was standing in the doorway with a big smile on her face.

I walked into the living room. My three younger brothers, Jake, Joshua and Josiah were sitting on the couch, being oddly quiet. Mum told me to put my bag down by the door and to sit on the couch with my brothers. I sat down next to Josiah and looked at mum, who was now standing in front of us.

"Mum, what's going on?" I asked worriedly.

"Your father will be here in a minute, he just has to pee." She replied.

A few seconds later dad came down the stairs, walked into the living room and stood with mum. They both looked really excited. My brothers and I all gave each other weird looks, then all looked back at our parents.

"Your father has some exciting news to tell you." Mum said happily.

"I know you all know how I've been looking for a good job so your mother and I can support the 4 of you." Dad said.

We all nodded.

"So I got an email earlier today from a company." He said.

"They want me to work for them, and I get really good pay." He exclaimed. Mum and dad looked at us and both smiled. I jumped up from the couch and gave dad a massive hug.

"That's great news!!!!" I squealed.

"I know!!!" He said excitedly.

"But there's a catch." Mum said.

I felt my face drop. I sat back down on the couch, with a million things running through my head.

"The company is based in another country." Dad said.

"So in order for me to be able to accept the job, we have to move to that country." Dad said slowly.

"What!!!!" I screamed.

I felt anger rinsing up from the pit of my stomach.

"What country?!" Joshua yelled.

"Canada." They said in unison.
