I heard the door open above water and kept very still in my little coven "Where is 'it'?" I didn't recognise the sour voice "It's a 'she' and hiding, she can hear you" I peeped my head outside the entrance. I flinched as I saw something hit the water hard, it looked like some kind of cane but I only confirmed my suspicions as it came down in front of me
"What are you doing?! That's gonna make her less likely to come out!" I grabbed the stick and batted it up and out of the water "Oh she's beautiful, just look at that tail!" I saw someone else enter the room, I looked up to see Burns. Oh how Pan would've loved this! "How much for her?" I whacked my tail down in protest, I would not be sold into slavery for a snake!
"S-she's not for sale boss" he gave one of those sly smiles "Oh I'm sure you can make an exception" I pushed myself up on the tiles and hissed sourly at him "You wanted to see why she's kept in here" The new man stroked my chin as if I 'belonged' to him, I was so tempted to drag him down into the water and watch him scream and writhe beneath my grip.

I kept my hand low and reached for his ankle, something hard suddenly hit me in the face "The world's changing, we need these monsters more reliable and not wanting to drown us." I fell back into the water clutching my cheek "train this one, she's too wild"
I stayed under the water's surface after the man tried to hit me again and again but he only succeeded half the times he tried "You do not get to come into our facility and hurt our subjects like they are animals!" the man stepped closer "I funded and payed for this whole project! Do not tell me what I can and can't do!"
I didn't know who this douche was and I didn't care, he did not get to treat people this way all because of pieces of paper. I went to the end of the pool and slid myself up on the cold floor and dragged myself behind him, it's only when he started scanning the water for me that I swept my tail under him causing him to fall in
"Don't bite off more than you can chew asshole" Burns looked more excited than anything else "you spoke?" I nodded "He deserved it, I don't like seeing my friends getting put in a corner"

"Can I see how bad it is?" He gestured to the beat marks all over my body "For gods sake man! Help me!" We looked over to see the man I threw in trying to swim "Sorry Windsor, condition of our subjects comes first" I watched the man struggle "God damn it Alex! You were like a son to me and you return the favour by letting me drown?!" Burns shook his head "I'm not letting you drown" he gestured to me to save him "don't let that bitch near me!"
I sunk head first in and swam under him then grabbed his hand and putting it firmly on the pool wall then glided to the platform where I hoped up "Be careful what you wish for" I watched 'Alex' walk over to me and examined my back "Why'd you have to hit so damn hard Ball? I got an attachment to this one"
I winced as he prodded one particular part "Hey Jake, we're gonna need the fence tonight, we got another one coming in for inspection" Jake nodded and disappeared into another room "you'll live but be careful"
I nodded and turned to face him "One question? What is the black substance in your blood?" I sighed "a disease, it's not contagious. My sister made it out of ink and poison when we were kids. I got cured but it came back, originally it was killing me but we made alterations to stop that"
He nodded and wrote something down "So? Who's my new 'roommate'?" He checked something else "goes by 'lily'" it couldn't be could it? "You know her?" I nodded "that would be the 'sister'" he chuckled "I take it you're 'Thea'" I rolled my eyes smiling "Theodore but yea"
I saw Jake emerge with the younger man I saw on the boat "Jake! We have a name!" He dropped the metal fencing and gave an exaggerated look of surprise "Who knew?!" He then picked it back up "Hey? You wanna give us a hand?" He was talking to Alex but I felt in a helping mood so I dove in the water and hovered near where they were guiding the fence down. I gripped the mesh above my head and helped it down "you got it?" I nodded and went underneath the water surface dragging it down to the floor.
The edge of the fence was really sharp so I had to be careful not the slit my fingers when I placed it down. I went back up to see that it was above head height "George is on guard duty tonight, so behave" I gave him an innocent smile "Oh and one thing to add to the charts, I'm a siren"
Burns looked so excited with all the new information, it was a wonder he hadn't squealed yet. My eyes followed everyone as they left me alone and the lights went out revealing I had lights in the pool. Once again I went down into the cove and tried to sleep. I would need it when lily arrived.
