A Siren's Song

You don't matter

The next day, 24 hours to the final frontier

I had every piece of the plan set into place, today I would have to cause a scene for lily to get the opportunity to get everything prepared. I took in a deep breath and let out a deafening scream and hid under the water as a few biologists rushed in trying to find the victim, I just swam around making whale sounds. One of them clicked their clicker at me a few times as if I was an animal. Jake strolled in "oh, this one isn't trained to clicker. Thea? These gentlemen would like a word" I floated over innocently showing I was ready to listen.

"good girl, see? Team work is possible!" I glanced at the men "did you exercise your vocal chords to an extremely high level just 120 seconds ago?" I gave Jake a confused look "he's saying 'did you scream two minutes ago?' in a fancy way, did you?" They stepped closer to the edge but Jake ushered them back a little "careful, this one grabs" I swallowed "if I did, would I really tell you? I mean c'mon, it's just a part of being a creature of the sea" I slipped under the surface of the water shaking my head telling them it wasn't me when it clearly was.

"Fascinating! A mermaid capable of luring men closer into the water with just a simple look" Jake threw me a piece of meat which was still raw and bloody "she's no mermaid, I'll tell you that much. All else is classified for higher levels" as their backs turned, i latched onto one dragging him into the water as yells were heard, electricity was suddenly filled my body causing me to let go of my victim as he tried to swim away but I latched my teeth into his neck. To my surprise, Jake dove head first into the water as I put my head above water level to compromise.

"Look, I get it, you want to make a statement. Let me tell you killing our staff isn't the way to do it, he could have a wife, kids, all that would be broken just by taking one life. You said your getting out of here in a little bit right, what would your boyfriend think of this?" I smiled "he wouldn't give a damn. If anything he'd be proud! We do what we need to and get rid of what's in the way...you're all in the way, what do you think will happen?" I realised I'd taken enough of their time for lily to do it at least twice, Jake saw a slight weakness in my eye and stretched out of his hand "You can do it...hand the man over. He doesn't deserve to die like this." I hesitated and thought about it "it's okay" I shoved the wounded man to Jake "atta girl!" He helped the man out of the water and smirked at me "I know what your doing, your giving someone else the opportunity to do something, but here's  a little secret...I'm not going to stop you from getting out, I've been trying to help from the inside but it's getting hard. I plan to take burns and live out the rest of our days in a French winery...we're getting married."

I grinned "well I'm happy for you, lily said he kissed me but I swear, it's all forgotten. I'm a siren, so many people try and kiss me." He laughed "he thought it was good luck and would help us escape here" I licked my bottom lip "I'll do you a favour, I'll tell 'him' you helped me get out of here. He should help you get your winery and all that then" he glanced around "we're sorry for how we treated you recently but the bosses were concerned we were getting attached, we had to act a little 'different'" a smile spread across my face "it's all forgiven and forgotten, the place I'm from will teach you things you can never forget, one of those is patience." For a few moments, we just smiled at each other "good luck" I wasn't entirely sure what he meant by that but I returned it, if it was bad, then it would relay onto him "and to you too"

The lights started to turn out and the water dropped below freezing meaning the night shift had started and my escape drew near...very near.
