~The Red String of Fate~

For the first time in my life, I felt the tight string loosen.

It floated up into the sky, dancing around the boy and I. I could see it, the luscious red string on my pinky, the brown-haired boy looking up at me, rubbing his wrist where the string was tied. I knew his name, the same one of legend without needing to ask. Link. Link Forrest . Link Heron Forrest.

Time seemed to slow as I locked my eyes onto his, and I was barely moving to the desk. Everything stopped. Everyone stopped. No one spoke. Everyone was shocked. They pointed, mouthing the words string. Everyone started whispering.

I had found my soulmate

And this isn't how people were supposed to find out

Flashback to 5th Grade – Soulmate Education.

"Okay class. Today, as part of curriculum you will earn how soulmates work."

My class was silent, listening. Expected of a private school.

The teacher explained that when you encounter your soulmate the string loosens, and you will find yourself drawn to your fated partner. You do not learn their name by default like many fantasise, meaning that many are too caught up in the moment to ask their soulmate's name. Time will remain the same and people carry on their daily lives around you, oblivious to the special event occurring.

There were never been any reported holes in this logic, the teacher explained briefly, many researchers having come to the same conclusion.

"Miss have you encountered your soulmate?" a child in my class asked.

"Yes actually. It all started in the summer of XXXX......"

What just happened was beyond anything anyone ever knew. This wasn't possible. It couldn't be! It goes against everything that had ever been taught to public! I reached my hand out to touch the string, but my hand phased through it. Everything was confusing. My head ached. I looked over to Link. He looked behind me worried. I turned around.

"Explain this! Link can't be your soulmate! He was destined to be with me!" A girl with shimmering blue, shoulder-length wavy hair exclaimed, her hands on her hips. She wore a long-sleeved turquoise off-shoulder blouse. It was pulled down wayyyy too far and made her look like a slut.

I swore I heard snickering

Wait... Was it possible to have the same soulmate as someone?

I looked back at Link surprised.

He shook his head.

That girl creeps me out. She's madly obsessed with me.

I jumped slightly. I could hear Link's thoughts. That was another abnormal factor. Or was it?

"Ruto please stop." For the first time I heard Link's voice. It was deep but soft. Gentle but firm. Just like the one I heard in my head.

"Then explain," She gestured to the strings floating around Link and I, "all of this."

I was at a loss for words. I didn't know what to do.

I looked around for help. Anju was standing there in shock. The situation was out of her control. I felt sorry for her.

Agreed. Anju can barely control her class, heck, she has no control in this situation right now.

Oh... Am I speaking to you via telepathy or something?

Yea. Nice to meet you. Hope we can get along, I guess.

Wait, has time stopped?

I looked around nothing was moving, I couldn't move. The string was the only thing in motion.

Appears so.

I saw a flash of turquoise material. It was from the girl from earlier. Her name was Ruto right?

I felt a sharp pain on my cheek.

I blinked. Twice. I just got bitch-slapped. BY A BITCH.

"RUTO! THAT"S TOO FAR!" Link screamed like an animal, his temper at boiling point. People started whispering again. It seems he doesn't tolerate violence.

I'm sorry.

For what?

For yelling.... I'm usually quiet. There will be gossip....

I heard a rustle of fabric from behind me, and the clanking of metal bangles.

Zelda watch out!
